Went to the range because I thought I had the dreaded feeding problem fixed. Was I wrong! After the first 40-60rds most of the time the rifle will not feed another round in the chamber and the bolt is like halfway open most of the time. Once in a while a round will half feed then stop or get jammed. Yes the gun was clean. Can anyone give me some insight on this. Thanks.

what brand of rifle? model? what mags are you using? ammo type(brand and also bullet type/grain)? are your feed ramps in good shape? try cycling your bolt with the charging handle a few times after it jams... letting a few rounds cycle... see if it feels gritty when pulling back... also make sure you're not using a rifle buffer spring in a carbine buffer tube... make sure the buffer spring/buffer freely moves inside the tube....
cant really think of anything else right now... answer those Q's and try a few things out and let me know where that gets you.... good luck man

I used thermold, orlite, and USGI type mags with winchester 55gr fmj and remington 55gr fmj and PMC 55gr fmjbt in my 16" Armlite eagle Carbine that I have had at the range probably four times. It does have a car stock that I ordered from TAPCO the spring was different than the one in my a2 stock. Could my gas tube not be sealed in my front sight properly? Thanks for the help. :cupjoe:

on your original post you said it gets stopped halfway.... explain this a little more...
does it get stopped when the bolt carrier is sliding back or foreward...
like ... if its going back.. does it not make it far enough back to pick of a seated round?... or does it jam when sliding foreward, after picking up a seated round?
if it jams on the way back, its either a spring or gas problem, if it jams on the way foreward.. its probably either a mag or feed ramp problem..

Yes. It stops halfway coming back to feed in the next round. It ejects the spent round fine but it does not even push the next round forward or when it does it jams.
When you say spring problem are you talking about the spring in the stock?

try cycling your bolt a few times and see if it feels gritty... also pop out your bolt carrier and push the bolt head into the carrier... if it sticks more than a little then take apart the bolt carrier/head and give it a good cleaning with some brake wash.. make sure to oil it afterwards... then see if it'll loosen up.... also check your feed ramps(the ramp like peices of metal by your chamber that the rounds hit as they slide up into it from the mag).. make sure there isn't any indentations from rounds hitting it... case lips where the bullet is seated could be hooking it...
also where are the rounds getting jammed at?.. are they above the bolt carrier or below?

Thanks for the help. I know it was clean and oiled so I am thinking that the TAPCO stock has a bad spring or it is the gas tube. I do not think it is the mags because it jammed in every style I put in it. I never thought of the spring before. Thanks again.

Are you using a carbine buffer, or the A2 buffer that was in the original stock. A carbine stock needs the smaller carbine buffer, not the longer A2 buffer.
Did it have this problem before you changed buttstocks?

I had the same problem with a Tapco collapsible stock, the stock came with 2 different springs, try the other spring, should solve your problem.

That is good to know. My Tapco only came with one spring. I am going to get a Wolf of Falcon Arms spring kit. The first time I shot it the A2 was on it and it did not jam. I bet it is the spring in the Tapco stock. Hey $29.00 was a good price at the time. I guess I learned my lesson. Thanks guys.
