Typical I guess...

It's making a terrible sqealing scratchy noise intermittently, however my mechanic couldn't recreate it at all...

I'm going to go there in a few minutes to see if I can't make it happen when he's in the car with me...

wish me luck!

Typical,I hear every noise my vehicles make. But when you want someone else to hear it,the noise stop's or they just don't hear it.Give it time and whatever it is will break.

Just picked the car up from him. We went out for a ride together, and the noise didn't occur. I am always pretty standoffish around car mechanics, and was expecting him to charge me for something or another, or try and sell me on some repairs I didn't need. I was pretty impressed that after he drove it around a few times, and looked the car over (finding it in good shape) he just told me to have a nice day and come back if the noise becomes more of a problem. Seems like with most mechanics, if they get you into their shop, they're determined to sell you something whether you need it or not.

Pretty good guy though, specializes in Hondas and Accuras if you live in the KC area, he's worth checking out. He came recommended to me from a number of people at work.

I have found often the problem lies with the position of the listener.

As mentioned, we know every noise our cars make...but that is because we are driving it! Try having the mechanic drive YOU so he will have his ears positioned exactly where yours are when you hear it.

It's unmistakable when the noise is happening. I first heard it driving on the highway in rush hour with the radio turned up. Driving into my apartment complex, I had my wife come downstairs to see if she could hear it, and with my windows down I realized how loud it was. My wife said she was actually embarrassed to be outside when I drove the car by it was so loud.

I drove the car with the mechanic, and he was driving at the time and it didn't happen. Also didn't happen on the way back to work from the shop. I have a feeling maybe since it's rainy out it might make a difference...

Also found out the speedometer problem on my car is more of a problem than I thought. Turns out it's an electronic system, and it's cheaper to replace the whole unit (costs about $350 parts and labor he said).

Other than what I suggested, the only other explanation is that the mechanics DO hear the sound, but have no idea what the hell it is.

Consider the human mind, specifically the ego. How many people do you know that admit to being wrong? Admit to not knowing the answer? The punchline to the latter is most people do say "I don't know" often. :)

You are experiencing one of lifes greatest of Murphy's Laws. Every day, every damn mile I am haering my mechanic-declared-non-exsistant-sound!
