After seeing Kanewtervalves pistol pic's (buggar won't invite me over) I am going to build myself a pistol too.BUT,,,,,same but different.

I have been thinking of the 10.5 inch or 11.5 inch Commando kit.
I want to use a flat top (with removable handle).
A CAR stock tube with the stock removed.
all Car-15 inards including the buffer assembly.
I will make Damn good and sure that the stock will not ever fit the tube.

I am hoping with the buffer assy in the Commando kit, that the pistol will cycle and not have to diddle with finding special buffer springs.

I also plan on using the stock car/commando front stocks to keep from getting burnt.

No front pistol grip or rear stock are going to be used on this fire arm. I want it pure legal and have tons of fun plinking with it.

With the flat top upper,,,i should have the option of mounting a long eye relief pistol scope on it.If i can't then i will used a traditional A2 upper.

ANY and ALL replies will be helpful. I know my tax return is going to get me another toy :)

personally I wouldn't use a CAR rear stock buffer tube assembly..

get a pistol buffer tube assembly and leave it at that. ATF could be VERY picky and bust you with intent of an SBR due to the fact you could slip a stock over the existing buffer tube creating a stocked SBR...

best to just play it safe and get the pistol buffer tube and try to work out any problems that may exist

EDIT:: but I just read that you would be modifying the tube.. personally I'd still go with the pistol buffer tube due to the fact it'd look better

daledoe LOL thanx bud :)

je i live about 15 miles from kanewtervalve. He is having problems with the buffer assy on his.He is in process of locating another spring for his pistol buffer assy, since his wont cycle correctly.

I am not worried about looks.I want reliability. The Commando's were having probs with the 10.5 barrel and went to 11.5 which resolved there problem.

Kanewtervalve is using the 7.5 barrel.Last time i talked with him on the phone,he is trying the wolf 1911 spring in his pistol.I know he is using a bushy lower, but i can't find the thread anymore to see which upper he used. I see mod 1 has a complete pistol assy (less stripped lower).
I am not sure which lower i will use.I just DON'T want to get stuck with a lower that has a rear take down push pin and a damn screw in the front.I had a colt rifle and a colt car and both had that damn screw front. In the army my M-16 had both front and rear push pins so i could separate both halves and make cleaning a wiz :)

Here I am Stoi, didn't forget about you, haven't been shooting since we both went, only to test fire the AR pistol(they were working the quarry that day so it was just a quick visit all the way in the back for 1/2 hour, wouldn't have been very fun considering the drive you have). I have the new spring, I ordered 2 so if I get this one to work I'll give you the other if you build a pistol. I also think the original problem with the pistol buffer tube was that I didn't have the tube's "nut" all the way screwed on, 4 threads were showing when I test fired, their should only be 1 1/2 to 2 threads showing. It's kinda hard to explain without pics but I believe the spring guide was canted slightly and bottoming out too soon when assembled. That would explain FTF next round because of the canted guide and not enough tension on the spring. I also found with closer examination that one of the feed ramps had a metal burr that I also corrected. My thoughts on the 10 or 11 inch commando would be to SBR it and put a regular collapsible stock on it, $200 more and alot of paperwork but I think it just be a nicer setup. That's why I went with the 7 1/2 upper, I wanted the most compact AR setup possible. Sorry for the long post, I'll report back after I test fire the pistol with all the corrections I've made, I will get it to work, trial and error but these pistols can be made to function 100% with a little effort.

BTW, the kit was from Model 1 sales, lower is a Bushy, although I would have gone with a Double Star if they had been in stock at the time.

THX Kanewt,

I wouldn't worry about long posts here. Most of the forum members seem to be over on the AK forum side.I think if i would post these questions over there in the general arms discussion,i would get alot of replies plus a few "this is an AK forum" LOL. Doesn't seem to be many people on this side :).

Just got my 7-1/2 pistol kit from Model 1 Sales. Everything looks great. I'll start the build on an Eagle Arms Armalite virgin receiver tomorow.
Any advice and/or cautions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
