I went up to CMMG about 6 weeks ago to find the place for the MODCC shoot and to buy some goodies. One of the goodies I was wanting to try was the E.G.R.E.S.S. (Enhanced Gas Regulation Extraction/Ejection Supplementing System) Bolt Upgrade Consisting of 5 parts:

Chrome Silicon Ejector Spring
Chrome Silicon Extractor Spring
Mil Spec Black Extractor Insert
Rubber "E" Ring(or D ring depending where you buy)
And my favorite part- 1 Piece Gas Ring!

Heres the info from CMMG's site:

New E.G.R.E.S.S. Bolt Upgrade Kit. Enhanced Gas Regulation Extraction/Ejection Supplementing System is low cost bolt upgrade that aids extraction and ejection and provides a superior gas seal. Extractor and ejector springs are chrome silicon which won't take a set and provides added corrosion resistance to standard springs. The single coil gas ring provides more consistent gas pressure than conventional gas ring. The addition of the E-Ring and Mil-Spec Black Extractor Insert assures enhanced extraction performance.

I really enjoy this upgrade. The one piece gas ring functions as good as stock, but no worries about "timing" the ports or breaking it when you install/remove it. It is easier to clean as gunk dosent get trapped underneath it or in between the rings. The 1 piece ring is more like 5 connected rings instead of 3. It is one of those "Why didnt I think of that?" upgrades. It is a pain to get on but use a screw driver and it will pop on with some pressure.

The black rubber extractor spring insert is much stiffer than the stock blue bushing (if you own a Bushy. I dont know what color other manu's use) and helps in extraction noticably, especially pared with the rubber D ring. Much better bite on the cartrige rim and more force throwing the shell. It dosent throw them 20 feet like some people like, but it does toss them a good distance. It also seems to pile them closer to one another than the stock bushing/no D ring, which is good if you reload.

I havent installed the chrome silicon ejector spring yet because I dont have the proper tool to do it, but I did install the extractor spring. We all know about chrome silicon springs:wont wear out or take a seat: so I dont have to go into why thats good.

All in all a great upgrade. The only thing I would change is the price. It's $30, which seems kinda high, but knowing that some places sell the D ring by itself for $15 evens it out. If you feel the need to try it and have money to blow, then by all means get it. If not, at least see if you can buy the 1 piece gas ring. It is by far the star of the show.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5
