View Full Version : Trigger pin walking

Just got done sending a couple hundred rounds down range with my first AR. Everything worked fine except that the trigger pin walked out just enough to keep the trigger from operating.
I got home and was looking at things in there and didn't see the hammer spring "locking" on the pin. I tried reversing the pin but got the same result. Do I need to widen the groove in the pin so the spring gets in there or do I need to look for the dreaded anti-walk pins? The pin itself doesn't fit snug, but isn't loose (if that makes sense) in the lower.
I'm tempted to just stick a couple pieces of electrical tape on either side to keep the pin in place but want to try and get this right.
Thanks guys!
Have you had the pin out and checked the locking groove's? The pin may just not be lined up right. If it's not snug I'd try a new pin. The tape may work as a stop gap for now. Luck ;)

Newb question: What do you mean by the locking grooves? There's two grooves in the pin. One is for the hammer spring between the receiver and trigger. What is the purpose of the other one. The one furthest out is for the spring right? Both of the pins for the hammer and trigger were the same. Is one different and I just didn't notice?
Now I'm a little confused, the hammer spring should have two ends (legs) sitting on the trigger pin one on either side of the trigger assembly, both should sit in a grove on the trigger pin if I'm not mistaken. I do believe the pin for the hammer is the same as the pin for the trigger.:)

Sorry. The spring has two legs. The pin has two grooves. The grooves are offset. One is closer outside and one is closer to the inside. They are both for the hammer spring though huh? OK. I'll take a look at things. I can push the pin with my fingers and am not a fan of that. I wonder if I opened holes up when I installed things??
Thanks Rew for your help so far!
I could be wrong, about the grooves in the pins. I didn't take mine apart, I was looking at an exploded veiw drawing. If one groove is offset towards the center of the pin then there is noway both legs can sit in the grooves. However one should be enough to lock the pin in place. I can move my pin's about half a milimeter with my fingers but that's about all, on both my lowers, one is a PWA and the other is a Cav arms. ;)

I think I'm going to take that pin out and open the groove a little more. The lower is a Mega and seems to be doing just fine for a build.
Thanks for helping me out Rew!

This might not solve the question but I sent my AR in and had anti-walk pins put in my DPMS A3 flat top when the JP trigger went in, they are worth the money.
