Has anyone ever run into a "CB" version of the .22lr? Not just a regular subsonic, but an actual .22lr round with CB velocity around 800fps yet using a heavier bullet than traditional conical ball short and long loads.
I'd like to see a 38-40gr hollowpointed 22lr with a powder charge that gave 780fps or so from a larger bullet than the 29gr lead solid CB used in most subsonic CB loads.
The .22lr case would give good feeding, the 40gr bullet would give more thump than a regular CB, and would also be more stable at distance than the 60gr bullet in the Aguila SSS.
Regular 22lr subsonic loads around 1080fps are still a bit too noisy for backyard blasting.

the only thing i have seen colse to that is the 22cb long. if you do find some in lr. let me know.

The long and the long Rifle share the same sized cases. The only difference is the bullet weight.

I use a Marlin 80 boltgun to shoot CB longs. The Marlin will shoot short, longs, and long rifles. CBs are quieter in my Marlin than my RWS Diana pelletgun.

On this subject, tell me how much sense this doesn't make.

I have both CCI Subsonics, and CCI CB shorts. If I run them through my suppressor, the subsonic is louder, which I expected, but is more of a poof type pellet gun sound, the CB on the other hand, while quiter, makes a much more distinct crack, which is more noticeable than the Subsonics signature. I loaded one of each into my p22, and had my wife and a few friends listen to them without knowing what round was what. All of them picked the CB as being louder based on it being more of a crack. I was bummed as it was going to be my pigeon rnd. Not now though.


I need some subsonic frangible ammo damnit.

I'm using a 925 Marlin with the excellent CB Longs from CCI. Sadly, I don't think Remington makes their original copper plated"CBee" rounds anymore (green and tan boxes). Those sure were nice. I used to drop squirrels out of our peach trees with those rounds and my dad's Anschutz.
I would like something similar to the "Toad Load" sold in Australia-a 40gr bullet at about 850fps. It should be louder than CBLongs, but will carry farther,have greater impact, still be subsonic,be quieter than regular subsonic .22lr,and will stabilize properly in 1-16 twist .22 barrels (unlike the Aguila SubsonicSuperSniper 60gr bullet which tends to keyhole at a distance)

IntegratedJ: regarding suppressors-you can get some weird sound signatures from different ammo. Sharper "crack" noises tend to be louder to the shooter, while deeper "thumps" tend to be noisier to people further away,but they may be exactly the same Db on a meter. Location relative to the bore adds to the weirdness.

I shoot CB longs from a 1022 through my dining room window, over morning coffee. I've killed cats with shoulder shots at 50 yrds with those rounds, just hope I never forget to open the window.

I think what's happening is the gasses are leaving before the bullet, so you're heading the gasses with the CB. With the subsonics, the bullet is traveling first, so the gasses are going through the silencer's baffles and first before leaving exiting at a lower pressure.

Are you having any feeding and cycling problems with the CBs through your 10.22? I think someone out there is making longer 20 inch barrels for the 10.22s. That should allow you to fire quieter than the stock barrel. The CBs seem to be quieter through 20 inch barrels than the 17 inch barrels.
