View Full Version : Question, is $300 too much for a saiga-12?

Okay. There is a pawn shop that I always do my non C&R transfers through, he only charges $15, and for me he charges even less if I order more than one gun. I've never bought anything from him, but he treats me right. Now that saiga-12 guns are drying up I want to get one now while I have a chance. I called CDNN, the FFL they have on file for him expired so even if he sent it out, they may not get the FFL for a while and they may be all gone by then.

So I call him (the pawn shop) up because I know he used to carry some of the 7.62X39 and .308 saiga sporter rifles. He said he has one Saiga-12 shotgun in stock, he says its camo stock, he says I can have it for $300.

Now on one hand, camo stock looks like ass, but I can strip that off and paint it black or whatever so thats not a issue to me. I know the camo stock guns went for $200, but they're not available anymore. I Know CDNN has saiga-12s for $230 shipped, but they only sell to FFL.

If he didn't have one in stock, i'd have to ask him to order me one, and probably pay a markup since he's ordering it and not just doing the transfer. But since he has one in stock I'm thinking I should jump on this before it's too late. He says he'll hold it for me till monday. Now I figure I'd be paying $245 at LEAST (cost of gun plus FFL transfer) best case scenerio. Now I just want to know, given the circumstances should I poney up the extra $55 and buy?

On one hand, I don't know when i'll get a chance to own one of these again, and for how much. Also We all talk about supporting small gun shops, and even though the guy is a pawn shop. half of the store is guns. He always has some AK or other military rifle in stock, he never looks down on me for buying an AK or other military rifle, he's never given me shit or been rude.

So do you guys think it's out of line to pay $300 for a Saiga-12 (regardless of the camo ones selling for less, since they're off the market its a moot point)

yeah, that's on the high end for a used saiga12. the thing is, they're drying up because the only importer, eaa, is a shit organization. remington is buying them out and is supposedly going to start importing them again.

as good as these shotguns are, they won't disappear!

No its not used. It's brand new.
he's a pawn shop but he carries a lot of new guns. Really is half a gun store.

Remington is not buying the saiga line, only the sporter shotgun like (forget the name)

So far there is no one lined up to buy the saiga line. Anyway, While CDNN still has them, IIRC they wont let me buy one because im not the FFL dealer. They dont sell to non FFL correct?

ah, but their rep is getting around! rugged, reliable, and cycle as fast as (if not faster than) the benelli, with a quarter of the price tag!

i thought rem was buying the s12 line and was gonna call it something else?

can't you give the money to your ffl guy and have him order one? that's what i did with mine.

no, remington is gonna import the russian sxs and over&undeers with different markings, you'll be seeing them at wally world soon, at a higher price.

ps, I can get a used saiga .410 at a local shop for around $150, anyone know if I should jump on it?

CDNN had the .410 for $150, they may still have them in stock.

But figure shipping and transfer fee and you may still be ahead even if its used. Besides its an AK, how 'used' can it really be? (Unless the owner was a moron and was like "IM GONNA TORTURE TEST IT BY POURING CONCRETE IN THE ACTION!")

I was thinking about a .410 saiga, but even with slugs its not that powerful, and the ammo is more expensive and less common than 12 gauge?

But for $150 its hard to beat, especialy if you make it 'evil pistol grip'

well the shops had it for a long time, so I might be able to get the .410 for under $150 (with a box of barnaul slugs). the main reason I haven't bought it yet is because .410 is a good deal more than .12. I've been thinking I could get it converted to a pistol grip, would be a pretty useless gun, not that's ever stopped be from buying a gun before

hey, can't you fire .45 long colt through a .410? also, doesn't wolf make that all metal .410 ammo? that would look cool, a stream of silver brass flipping into the air as you ripped off a mag!

I think it's the otherway around on the .410/.45lc thing. don't know if wolf makes .410, but I know the slugs are barnaul.

wile the stream of brass might cool, it wouldn't for long, the mag only holds 4 rounds
