I was wondering where is the best place to purchase a AR-15. A store down where I live is selling a Olympic Arms CAR-15 for 669.00 comes with collapsible stock, A2 upper, 30 RD mag, and a Hard case. Is that a good deal or should I look else where?

I found the exact same gun with the exception of a standard stock and it was $595. Your price is pretty standard.

For a little bit more you could have a bushmaster... I'd suggest saving up a bit more and getting a Bushy

There are 3 AR's in my house, one built from a J&T CAR kit on a Stag lower, a RRA M4gery and an Oly K4B Duty/Match. The Oly cost $650 at a gunshow last October, fit and finish wise it's as good as either of the other two, it's 100% reliable with any ammo and it's the most accurate. I've compared it to a lot of different AR's, and it stands up well to any I've seen and it's more accurate than most. Oly offers a 60 day satisfaction guarantee, if you're unsatisfied in the first 60 days return it for a full refund. Their guns are also covered by a lifetime warranty and they're a great company to do business with.

I have a PCR-5 that I carry in my squad car. I have never had a problem with this weapon. I have shot many other brands and Oly's will stand up to any of them. Alot of brands are purchased because of the name and that's what you pay for.

I had an Oly PCR but its no match for the Armalite I now have. Granted.. the Armalite is way over your $600.00 price tag but for $700.oo you could get a Bushmaster from AIM. Thats what I would do. Bushies have a great rep.
The Oly might be good for you but it does not have the quite the resale value.
Not bashing Oly's they are a fine beginning AR.. just don't get the plinker.....just horrible.

Whzt do you see is the major difference between Oly and the others that make "Beginner" weapon. From what I know they are all mil-spec weapons. The only difference I could see would be barrels and bolts.

Well, like I said in the above post... Olys dont really have the resale value, just because nobody really actively looks for one.
True, most are all mil spec however, they vary with fit and finish. I would say that Olys are good beginner AR's because they are priced very well. Its kinda like comparing 1911's. Colt vs. Springfield vs. Kimber vs. Llama, ya know. They are all milspec but Llama just doesnt compare with a Kimber or Colt. Or Springfield customer service is better than Colts but their quality isnt as good as Kimbers. Kimbers are way overpriced but are extremely nice weapons. I would have to say that Springfield makes a good beginner 1911 because of decent quality, price, resale value, and customer service.

Just to be safe, one should just stick with the ABC's of AR's.
A- Armalite
B- Bushmaster
C- Colt

Just from personal experiance, I would have to add an R in there as well for Rock River Arms......very nice AR and they have a price that just can't be beat. Only thing is, they have a humongous waiting list right now.

And the Oly Arms are exceptionally accurate by comparison. Two of my ARs are 1 MOA. Ones an A1 with standard guard and 20 inch match barrel, the other has a free floated 20 inch fluted match barrel. Have several CARs also, including one that's y babe's. Oly Arms customer service is excellent.. in fact yesterday I picked up my new Belgian .40 Browing Hi-Power from the Oly Arms factory (they are 10 miles away ) Oly Arms concerted it to .357 Sig, so now I have a cool custom multi caliber BHP. Will be shooting it today.

Oly Arms is also building a custom .45 ACP Mauser bolt gun for me, (it uses 1911 mags) fluting the super heavy barrel and threading the muzzle. They do great work, amke a quality product, and I highly recommend them.

the olympic arms rifles are as good as any other brand ! i have 4 ar's.....colt, armelite, dpms, and olympic. the fit and finish is the same on all 4. the accuracy is the same with all 4. the reliability is the same with all 4. the warranty on the oly is the best you can have.....life!! so what is the difference ?

ford...chevy...dodge....gmc...bla..bla..bla...... get my meaning ? some people have what i like to call "paid more money for mine so it's better than yours" syndrome. when i buy a firearm i base it on 4 things :
1. reliability..... does it go "bang" when i really need it to ?
2. accuracy.... can it hit what i shoot at consistantly ?
3. fit & finish...good solid assembly?....is it a nice looking weapon ?
4. warrenty....does the company have enough confidence in their product to stand by it ?

buy your guns using the above methods basing your information on actual documented fact (not opinions and hearsay) and if possible, field trial testing.

The Colt product is afflicted with over priced appeal. Check this site on just Colt uppers:http://www.specializedarmament.com/ Ive shot both Colt and Oly and the Oly matches it pound for pound in reliability.

I consider the Olympic Arms a hidden treasure. The market is kind of unaware of them and that keeps them lower in cost, but the quality is outstanding.

Shhh. Don't let too many people know. Rock River Arms were not too expensive a few years ago, but now that the word is out...

RRA still isn't expensive. They offer some of the finest quality lower recievers in the market (with a decent logo.. I don't want a damn deer head for all you Stag lovers hissing at me :D ) with affordable costs.

Even most of their parts are very reasonably priced and good quality. The whole rifles have had a bit of a price hike, but I'd attribute that more towards demand. Buying parts from 3rd party vendors still yields low costs for good RRA products.

The Plinkers are fine now. All of them are now using forged receivers.
