I have heard many talk about a removable magazine shotgun restricted to 5 rounds. Is this because the shotgun, say SAIGA12 is semi auto?
I think I just saw the reloading annual catalog for Cabellas offering a 10 round drum magazine for the 870 or mossberg pump. Confusing. papa

I think things started getting hairy back in the 1990s when some semi-auto shotguns were declared destructive devices and put under NFA. I think any drum fed semi-auto shotgun is considered a DD legally. As I understand it, with the AWB gone, we should be able to legally own the 8 (might be 10 rnders out there) rnd mags for the saiga 12. Seems the ATF isn't approving them for import, and some people are buying them out of some place in Europe for something like 125 a mag. It may have to do with the ban on certain types of Russian weapons.
Best I know there aren't any mag issues for pump actions. Only semi-autos. Drums for a semi-auto are a no no. But that doesn't mean you can't have a semi-auto shotgun with a box magazine with the same capacity as a drum.
I'd really like to see double stack mags for the saiga 12. Maybe something in the 15 or 20 rnd range.
My understanding is that EAA won't import them, nothing about the ATF since they are being legally shipped here by rusmilitary.com and a couple others. rusmilitary has them for more like $80 a piece.
Are as far as anyone knows, there is no mag size restriction on mag fed semi shotguns. Only vague guesses if the ATF would eventually DD these guns.

Mag capacity was a product of the AWB. The ban is dead now. Lock and load Bud. The only restrictions are based on importation laws now. If a high cap drum, mag or whatever is legal for sale, it's legal in/on your shotgun right now.

Depending on what state you live in! Make sure to double check your local laws just to be safe.
