I have a 20'' a2 upper and I am looking for a reliable scope that will get up to 500 yds. I've been looking at the bushnell elite 3200 3-9x50.

Bushnell is a great brand. Bushnell, Leupold, and Simmons seem to be the top scopes for AR15's if you arnt into the tactical theme.

Thanks, do you think it would be ok to mount it on top of the carry handle?

Sure. It will be kinda high for a proper, let alone comfortable cheek weld, but it will still work fine. What mount do you plan on using? If you can, get a decent NATO STANAG mount with a see thru tunnel so oyu can still use your iron sights if you wish.

Just rememer the higher you go, the more complex it is to plan the bullet drop in the glass the further you shoot.. so... take that into consideration

No need to cut yourself short. If you want a scope get one. Just sight it in with the load you plan on using and be done with it.
