$1000.00 !! I look at it as an investment like a 401 K plan.. :)
These are one of the few guns that increase in value every year..The AK's we play with are fun, but they will never be really valuable ( yes there are some exceptions) but as a general rule..

NoN NFA too isn't it?

Broomhandles with detachable sholder stocks are exempt from NFA rules.. I think that is because they are classified as an antque .. The first C96 Mausers were made in 1896
those early ones i can understand but this one like mine was made in the 1930's and as far as i know it too is exempt.. I think some will debate this , but every serious collector of these guns says its a non issue

Sweet. The Broomhandle and the Luger have that certain mystique to me. Fascinating pistols. I wish I had one of each!

Those are too cool.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the chambering actually the dimensionally near-equivalent 7.63 Mauser?

Although it will chamber, isn't 7.62 Tok a bit hot for the C96?

That's a great find, and a equally great investment.

Very nice broomhandle. I believe they are exempt from NFA rules because of their status as curios and relics and collector value.

Yes you are correct.. the true caliber is 7.63x25 Mauser.. dew to this is next to impossable to obtain any more, almost every shooter uses 7.62x25 ammo..
Modern 7.62x25 ammo chambers and functions just fine in these old pistols.. What
NOT to use is surplus sub gun ammo.. it is loaded way to hot.. S&B Commercial ammo
seems to be the most popular with shooters in these Mauser pistols.. Keep in mind
that most guys that have shooter Mausers dont run cases of ammo thru them.. they
shoot them very seldom and gently.. (at least the ones who have common sence and know the value of these almost 100 year old guns)
Shooting hot ammo will cause the bolt stop to crack and possably fail causing the bolt
to fly out of the frame.. not a good thing to happen!!
Any one who wants to shoot these on a regular basis needs to handload with reduced
loads i would think...
People that have shot out barrels or badly pitted bores can have the barrel bored and lined with a sleave to 9mm.. if their pistol is in 7.63 to start with.. Mauser also chambered these in 9mm.. and i think they can also be sleaved with a liner..
Not a home workshop job, but for a specialist in these pistols..
These pistols do have alot of history behind them and to be able to find and buy one in great shape is a true treasuer !! Mine will become a family heirloom for the grandkids for sure.. :)

They just don't make them like this anymore.
A good example of Mauser genius.
The Mauser 1930 in this pic is 9mm.

Great find, I have one made in 1930 it is also in 7.62x25 , mine has about 85% blue and a mint bore. You are lucky as I paid $ 1200 for mine. I shoot reduced handloads in mine and as you said these are hairloom guns. I think everyone knows what they look like, sinister and timeless. Glad to see your going to pass it down, that is what I am going to do. Good Shooting. rk3006

If the buttstock/holster matches I wouldn't shoot it at all. That's about as rare as hen's teeth and you can find mismatched shooters in the $800 range with a little looking. Grandpa's Luger with all matching including magazines and holster only gets cleaned every year about the time I aquired it. I have a VO-PO to shoot.

timkel, Did the 9 on your pistol grip come that color? Every other one I've ever seen was red except a bubba exception or two.

The 9 came that way. The wood looks new. Must be a reproduction.
