Actually I'm considering an ACOG and an EOTECH. But, I'll ask about the ACOG in this post. How are they when it comes to CQB and reflex shooting? I also have seen some kind of red dot sight mounted on the rear of the ACOG's but I can't find any info on those. Will the ACOG's work with the front sight post installed?

If these questions have already been asked and answered let me know before a flame please.

no flames whatsoever. :welcome: to the forums. This is a great place for info, and you'll find that most people here answer with honesty and info, rather than flaming the uninformed :)

First off, I speak from experience, because I own a TA01NSN.

The great thing about these scopes is the fact they are cheaper than the more expensive BAC equipped ACOGs such as the TA31 series.

The 4x magnification is high enough to eliminate the front site post. I have the FSP on my AR and its invisible when using the optic.

The backup iron sites are "ok" at best, but will work in a pinch. The thing I dont like about them is there is no cheek weld when using them, cus they're mounted so high. This is also the issue with the reddot sight called the JPoint which can mount to the iron site bracket. Those roughly cost about 250$ with the mount.

The Eotech will be awesome for CQB, whereas the ACOG will hinder at anything sub 50. I have never tried anything CQB with it, but it WILL focus on anything as close as 5 yards to as far as 400+... so, it COULD work, I've just never tried.... but with 4x I think it'll be hard for target aquisition at anything sub 50. For that I think a BAC equipped ACOG or a compact 1.5x or 2x would be more suitable.

But... as for ACOG's in general I've never seen glass cleaner or objects more crisp through a lense. Absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't spend 1k on it, but if you can find a good deal on one, then I'd jump on it. Goodluck man.

Thanks for the informative reply. I will more than likely go with the ACOG. The CQB aspect was only a small part of the decision making. I think the ghost ring sight will do just fine with enough practice.

Well, I got my TA01NSN mounted on a 20" A4 and you can barely see the shadow of the FSB. I use mine at ranges from 0-400 meters and can tell you this: IT works fine for CQB. The Irons are recommended for use from 0-20 meters, but If you practice some, you can use the ACOG at 10+ meters. Anything nearer than 15-20 meters is point shooting anyway. I have no problem pulling it out at 20 meters and loosing two rounds into a single hole. Then, move back to 400 and shoot a 1.25 MOA 5 shot group on relativly fast fire (about 2-3 seconds between shots). THe TA01NSN can do anythign you want it to, the question is can you become proficient enough to use it well in close.

I was searching the net for ACOG's and saw a picture that stated to be sure and keep both eyes open. My question is does that apply to all ACOG's or just the ones with BAC and what will the effects of monocular vision have on properly using the ACOG TAO1NSN?

All ACOGs are compatible wiht all generations of NVG's. With an ACOG, I believe you mount the monocular in front of it as ACOGs have a set eye relief and magnify, unlike Aimpoints and EOTechs. YOu can use any ACOG with both eye open if you practice, but the ones ment for true both eyes open shooting are the BAC models only.
