Neighbor came over today to do some shooting, AR's and bolt action rifles. Anyway he pulled this drum out of a bag to show me. It looks like a chinese AK drum, back pops off and you load the rounds in and wind it up. What blew my mind was that it was for an AR! Only problem was that it would not feed very well so we pulled the rounds out and used regular mags. I have never heard of such beast. Anyones else seen or used one?

Yep, the Chinese made a 120 round drum, identical to the 75 and 100 rounders that they made for the AK, except the 120 was for the AR. I have one, and have never had a problem with it, other than people asking if I was ever going to run out of ammo! Make sure your friends drum is clean, and that he winds it a minimum of 4 full turns. That usually is good for half a mag, I don't like to risk overwinding, so I wind it 4 turns, then around the 60th round, wind another couple of turns.

I got a 75 rounder in 7.62 for a Daewoo DR300 that sounds similar to what you saw. Kept seeing it at local gunshows back when the ban was still on. I was finally able to talk the guy into a trade and some cash but I'm glad I finally got it. It's a nice addition to that rifle.
