The Marlin 336C chambered in .35 Rem. should make an excellent short range/brush gun. It should be a great combination for hunting deer or black bear. Just my thoughts.

Agree with Steven 100%. The Marlin 336 has been around since the stone age just about and the .35 Rem is no spring chicken both have brought home supper for a long time and I expect them to keep doing so for a long time to come. ;)

Marlin officially started the Model 336 production back in 1948. But the design of a solid-topped, side-eject rifle that would chamber the then-new smokeless cartridges such as the .30-30 and the .32 Winchester Special goes back to 1893. The .35 Remington cartridge was introduced in 1906 in the Remington Model 8. Niether would be considered the newest fad in firearms or ammunition but they sure make a great combination that has definitely stood the test of time. Just my thoughts.
