View Full Version : Legality: Using AMD rear trunnion sans stock?

Since the parts count issue does not apply to pistols, it'd be less costly to make an AMD '65 into one.

Riddle me this - will merely removing the wire folder from an AMD rear trunnion satisfy federal legal requirements?

Surely one does not HAVE to weld, or otherwise screw up, the vacant block interface area of said trunnion? Especially since it would be nice to maintain the option of converting it to a rifle, if a pistol does not really float your boat; a bbl. ext. could be easily added.

Those trunnions w/ the Q.D. swivel are nice, but I'm wondering about using the folder button shank as a base for a swivel, since it's a hard point, & would easily accomodate a sheet metal tab for a sling. Not keen on replicating the AMD - OEM sling slot.

Also, does merely removing the wire stock satisfy legal, federal, pistol definitions, enabling one to maintain the vertical foregrip?

I think it does, but am basing it only on some of the pictures I seem to recall viewing here. The rifle build requirements have so far been of more interest to me. What say those of you in the know?

i'm not chancing it i cut the stock off the piece that inserts into trunion and tig welded that piece solid then drilled the stock hole out to 1/2 and press fit the swivel base into the opening
it's pretty sweet and i don't take risks when it comes to the batf

I'm not sure I read your post correctly, but you cannot have a pistol with a vertical foregrip. This would be an Any Other Weapon and subject to the provisions of the National Firearms Act of 1934. For example, you would have to either pay a $200 "making" tax or a $5 "transfer" tax if a Class 2 manufacturer did the work for you. YOu would also have to live in a state that allows AOWs. Do not install the foregrip if you want a pistol. The foregrip is ok on a rifle but on what I think you have in mind.

Thanks for the heads up, I did not know that. Figures that such an absurd law would be the law, I mean, without a shoulder stock in the first place, it'd be hard to aim effectively & basically a hip shooter, with two grips I don't see how it would be any better aimed w/o that butt stock.

Maybe I want a rifle after all!
