I've been using both blended and pure synthetic motor oil as a lube on my AK, SKS, beretta, ARs, shotguns and 1911's for some time now.. as a friction reducer it's awesome.

I'm still using breakfree and a rag to rub down bare metal surfaces to prevent rust... but not as a lube anymore..

Anyway, I thought I'd try Penzoil blended 5-20 on my 10/22 and see what happened.

I put some on my finger and rubbed a little bit on all the places in the frame that seemed to have wear marks, put a light coat on the bolt, put a little bit on the recoil spring guide rod and put the gun back together..

I put a drop on the pins going through the trigger assembly but didn't directly put any inside the assembly..

It's amazing how quick the bolts seems to return home with this stuff...

Of course this is kind of a moot point and it doesn't fix anything with this gun because with the right mags it's always been 100%... but it's interesting..

It's going to be interesting to see how lonk this "slickness" lasts in the little gun. On my other firearms the slickness seems to last longer than I care to go between cleanings, on my AK thats 500+ rounds.

BTW, this gun has seen more than 100,000 rounds... I bought it used in 1973.

That is an interesting idea... I may have to try it, thank you :)

Thanks for the idea. I have a 10/22 that is a little particular about how it wants to shoot. Maybe some good old motor oil will make it behave!
