Howdy,

I took my AR to the range for the first time last weekend in Las Vegas. I cleaned with CLP and left the requisite light coating of CLP on the action parts. The bolt and carrier were bone dry in 200 rounds.

I heard that some folks are using a system of brake cleaner for flushing (cheap) and then Militec lube (expensive) which looks to roughly equal in cost to going through a bunch of CLP. I think that might work better in my little desert town here.

Does anyone use this set-up on AR's specifically? Do you like it?

Thanks again to the knowledgeable!

I jsut use Militec. They say you need to degrease your gun before using militec for the first time to allow it to bond with the metal then go shoot it to heat it up and make it a permanent dry lube. This makes the gun always have lube and makes the gun much easier to clean each sequential time. Militec on a rag and a wipedown is all thats needed to clean the receivers. The bolt and carrier are more labor intensive obviously because of all the nooks and shit, but are still easier to clean none the less. I never use carb cleaner and mine comes clean just fine. Militec is awesome stuff. You can actually see where it has been burned into the metal after firing, its really cool. They even say adding a drop or two to the barrel before shooting it after a good cleaning or when brand new actually increases velocity. I dono if its true since I dont have a chrono, but they didnt lie about it permanently bonding with the gun, so I doubt they lie about the velocity. Troops in teh sandbox swear by the stuff and so do I. Remember, a little goes a long way and you never need to worry about running dry again.

Militec is good stuff I have been using it exclusivly now for 3 years with zero problems. I am now going through the HAZMAT paper work to get it approved for use in my unit.
