If you're building or bought an AK pistol, give us some details, and show it off with some pics.
Need some more pics in the pistol gallery. :)

i will be starting my first ak pistol (screw) build later today from a ewbanks receiver after i pick up my drill press. i will probably have questions as the build goes on since im not very mechanically inclined. i have spent the last 2 months reading through the build it yourself forums and gathering the parts and tools that i will need. i do have a couple pistols on order/shipping and will post pics when i get around to getting a camera (hopefully soon.) the first is a franken krink pistol which elitefirearms is doing for me and the other which is en route due to be in my hands on the 5th is a redstick-firearms true krinkov pistol on a 1.6mm receiver the same offered by atlantic. i had a relative pick it up for me.

Sounds you're on the road to your first build. A drill press is a MUST for building.
When you start your build, there is a wealth of information here, and many members willing to help along the way.

Happy building!!

Just finishing up my first AK build ever. It's a AK pistol built on a AMD65 kit. Used plinkers Jig and a HF 20ton press. ArmoryUSA reciever. Almost done with it, Just need to Guncote it and put wood handguards on. Had extra parts left over though, anyone know what the splitpin is for that's included in the kit?

Referring to the split pin, are you describing a roll pin?
I don't remember any such pin being included in any of the AMD kits I have.

Yep, a roll pin. Has a little bushing/washer on one end.

OK, I know what it is.
It's a sleeve for the trigger pivot pin assembly. It goes in the pivot pin hole on the trigger and disconnector.
The washer is actually a spacer to keep the disconnector in it's proper place.

i got an amd front end kit from bocephus.
i had a member of the board cut the barrel down to 9".
he did a great job, and he's a respectable member like slam is.
im new to building , so im gonna have my first pistol built by a gunsmith.
im gonna keep reading and studying some more before i try to build.

when get that pistol built, ill post pics.

slamfire, how about making me some custom handguards for a 9" amd barrel??

the guy whose gonna build my pistol says that if he did it,
"it would'nt be 100%" meaning, he would probably do a shabby job.
whaddya say man? how much would you tax me.

Slamfire, this is starting to look like a fine build. Here is the barrel that was shortened by our friend. I just hope I can duplicate your wood work.http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//500/28314Scotts_barrel-med.jpg

I told him 9inches like yours. Does it really look that small? I cant tell, the pis of yours is slightly larger so its hard for me to get a good judgement.

Toxic, Do you have the front flange soldered or welded yet?
What I do is, after the length is found and the wood removed for the front flange, I remove the upper from the gastube, and use a Dremel with a drum sander attachment to match the contour of the flange.
Kinda blends the wood to the flange.

Slam, the flange is still loose, I've been "trim fitting". I have been doing just as you have suggested,(using dremel) I am a little too big yet but after some contouring and a little more material removal, I think it will all line up. I dont want to go too far yet until I have the lower, so I can line both upper and lower hg retainers. Afterall if the retainers are off, it'll throw the whole thing off. As far as matching the curves of the wood to the curve of the retainer, I have the photo of your build in my photo files and I keep going back to it to review. I really like how well yours fits, and I'm going to try to match that example. :)

Don't despair, lower HG is on the way.

Looks like its coming along nicely Scott take your time and get it right the first time. I was going to do that on my 8"er but the wood would only be about 3/4" wide so I thought the hell with it.

If that had a Krink FSB/GB on it would sure enough be a shorty! Isn't your gas piston shorter than a Krinks?

http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//500/28314ak_pistol-med.jpg gunny54 , 1-5/8in on this piston. I dont know the length of a Krink piston. Well I took a little time and sanded and trimmed and refitted until I came up with this, and this is the way it's stayin. It fits tight and doesnt move around so I'm not gonna mess with it anymore. I destroyed the lower hg I had, trying to fit it to the short barrel,( :) I'm glad I have one on its way and thank you again slamfire) More to come.
