Here's mine. She is soo sweet to shoot now. Way better than she was before!
K people buttstock, G2 FCG, Ace Galil style PG, modified Bulgy trigger guard, and lots of button head screws.
I went the fixed stock route because I just don't like the look of the other stocks on this gun (don't get me wrong, I have a Ace on my SAR-1 and a Romanian folder on my SAR-2). Hope you enjoy.

My conversion is pretty much like most others with the exception on the barrel being threaded for the Winchoke system. Gets muzzle brakes, chokes, paradox tubes, you name it! :big:

LOL The damn ring would need to be .90 inside to fit that thing!! But a bayonet would be a nice addition...
I like AKATTACK's gun. His barrel looks shorter and more proportional.
Question- what shell lengths do these use? 2 3/4 only or 3" only? Is there any capacity over 8 rounds? Or is there some legal issue preventing that?
PS- hugegator, is that an RPK or a homebuilt clone?

Here's a pic of the bayonet lug made by Tromix, I'm not sure if these are still available. If I remember correctly, you use the M7 bayonet from the M16 and bore out the barrel loop. AKATTACK

To answer your question about shell length, you can use either. You can even mix them in a mag and it will work just fine. There is also 2 settings on the gas port, one for lighter loads, and one for magnums.

If you mix loads in the magazine, IE like magnum loads and light loads, with the adjuster set to light loads, will there be any problems from the extra pressure? Can the shotgun be set for light loads for using rubber slugs and such?
I want an AK for my birthday... hey, this counts, and I could use the 2 3/4 and 3" ammo I have now. How much does one run for now?

I would not recommend using magnums on the light setting. It would probobly be a bit excessive and wear the internals prematurely. That's why it has 2 settings for the gas port.
I can't tell you anything about slugs, rubber or other, as I have never shot any through my Saiga 12.Mine has the fixed full choke and I don't want to expose it to the stress of squeezing slugs through a full choke.

I leave mine on the mag. possition. have shot alott of skeet with one of them, of course using 2/3/4. the felt recoil is super low. and I will ad that the 350.00 gun did as well as all the others IE O/E Berretta and so on. As far as slugs I shot 5 mini slugs (buffalo bullets) through it and it was fine

Are 8 rounders still available, or are they illegal or ultra-expensive?
Assuming I want to be the evil shotgun-sniper-killer-assasain-child-harming-man and get a folding stock and cut the barrel down to 18", do I need 10 US parts or do they already have those? If I need the 10 parts, how many of them can I get as regular AK parts and how many must be specially-made for the Sagia?
PS- when I say cut down the barrel, I mean my local trustworthy gunsmith will trim it safely and legally and re-thread it for me.

keep in mind that reducing the brl. lngh. on a imported saiga, (not L/E) may cause gas pressure promlems,IE cylcling ,feeding, ejecting, so on and so forth

Does it matter if it is cut at least 4 inchest past the gas port? I thought that past that it wouldn't matter.

That is a homebuilt clone RPK built on a Saiga 7.62x39 with a 20" barrel with some Polish laminate on the front and some Romanian lminate on the rear.

what parts do you need?
Yes you can cut the barrel down, see my pics. Mine is at 19" but near 18 you will run into extraction problems if you don't have a break or flash hider. There is a lot more info on the gas port sizing at saiga-12.com
You only need 3 US parts for a 12 with no muzzle attachment, 4 with the muzzle attachment. Easy - TAPCO G2 trigger group (3), US pistol grip (1), US stock (1)
8 rounders are about $80 each, but there is a wait on shipping from both Finland and England. Again see saiga-12.com for more info.

$80!!! Thats more than my SVT magazines cost!!
What is the chance I can get one that comes with an 8 rounder? Is it illegal to cut the feed lips off of one 5 rounder and weld it to another and combine the springs to make a 9/10 rounder? Or would that be classified a "Destructive device"?
I have about 500 rounds of 12 gauge ammo, as my brother handed me tons of it when I got my first shotgun. No way I can burn it all up in a Winchester 1300 pump!
What kind of muzzle attatchments are there? I am a total idiot when it comes to the Sagia line of rifles, I glanced at their website once two years ago when looking for a semi-shotgun and scoffed at an AK 12 gauge. Boy was I dumb then.

Waiting on the "AK" stock and pistol grip.
I finally found another provider last week and welll fingers crossed. :)
0 chance that you will get an 8 rnd mag with the gun. They were never "officially" imported except for LEO. There is no law restricting you from combining two or more mags for higher capacity. See saiga-12.com for more info.
FYI the 5 round mag holds 6 shells, the 8 round mag holds 9 shells

So the overall capacity (one in the chamber) means that there are 7 and 10 round capacities?
Q-gunner2
05-02-2005, 07:23 PM
PS- so its like the SVT? Called a 10 rounder but it holds 11?
It seems most Russian magazines hold one more than they are supposed to.

http://www.gunsnet.net/album/data//500/12342saiga_20_010.jpg Finished conversion a couple months ago but didn't like looks of standard handguard so I modified standard ak retainers to fit.Still waiting on new front and rear sights to complete.
Essentially yes, on the 5 round mag you will need to trim the follower.
Q-gunner2

So I hack off the feed lips of one magazine, weld it to the bottom of the other magazine (after it has been prepaired), add a thin steel plate on each side for strength, combine the springs and use one floorplate. Cut down the floorplate some.
And presto, 11 or 12 round magazine? I know there is fitting and finishing involved, I am just getting the jest of it. And no I am not pulling the ideas out of my ass, I saw some AK and AR 70 round magazines at a gunshow, for sale by www.ammunitionstore.com.

i noticed that when i took apart my S20 mags. But can you still load the mag from a closed bolt when fully loaded if you trim the follower?

My thanks to Tomac for for introducing me to the S12 and to intergratedJ for pointing me in the right direction and giving me some good pointers on doing the pistol grip conversion. This thing is loads of fun!
hoplo74,
The Krebs sight is nice but I ended up having to file down the front post. My S12 shot so low with it, even with the post all the way down I was 10" under the target at 50 yrds. Then again, I did have the same problem with the rail so hopefully things will go better for you.

Those 9 round mags, or more? They look bigger than the other 9 rounders posted (so-called 8 rounders).
Nope, just eight (nine) round mags.
