Hey guys I was wondering if its at all possible to build a 12ga pistol out of a Saiga shotgun. Ive seen the full size guns and the Idea of an AK shotgun is purty awsome. I just thought taking it up a notch would be even better

Oh I thought maybe you could register them as Short barreled shotguns with a 200 dollar stamp or something

Uh, well you could always do that I belive.
Im not sure tho.
Anyway, the whole point of an 'ak pistol' is you can do it without paying and registering it. And not all states allow SBR or SBS.

Sure, as long as its a .410 bore (pistols are prohibited from being larger than .50 - or technically .50 BMG would be legal but insane). That would be a real hoot! What would be entailed in doing such a project (I would be interested).

that'd be great except you would have to use a receiver that was never built as a stocked shotgun.

A smooth bore pistol of any caliber is a AOW so you would still have to pay the tax.

Without replacing the receiver with a never used RPK style receiver that is registered as a pistol, you can't do it with a rifled barrel.
Honestly it would be kind of a waste, and it takes a shit load of work to get them to function 100% with a super short barrel. You have to seriouslt drill out the gas ports, and for best results, actually move the gas block back and have a custom shorter piston made for it. Tromix did a couple real short SBS' that were abolutely sick, but it was way to much work.

IJThat would be classified as a DD and still cost you 2 hundred frog skins as the bore is over 1/2".

Those are classified as pistols and legal.I shot one of those on the top the FMJ.Very cheaply made pos .The stainless unit looks like a quality piece. Both of these have rifled barrels That is what makes them legal and they are also under 1/2" bore.

Hmm. I've NEVER had any interest or desire to own/shoot one of these type derringers.
The POS ones I've seen in the flesh looked like the plan would be to hand it to your aggressor, and let it blow up in his hands. :lool:
I did own a High Standard .22 mag derringer, which I liked because it was a quality manufactured weapon.

I Own One Of The FMJ Model DD Double Barrel .410/.45 LC Derringers...Shot It With Both Kinds Of Ammo,And The .45 LC Is CONSIDERABLY Easier On The Hands Than The .410.
Accuracy Is Crap Either Way...But You Might Have A Better Chance Hitting Someone With The .45 LC Round.
Let's Put It This Way...This Would Be The Backup to Your Backup's Backup...You Would Have To Have Gotten To The Point Where You Are Beating Someone With Your Own Shoes,And The Sole Breaks..Before You Would Use This Weapon.
