5.45 AK pistol

As far as I know this is BS. There was, and still is (by some parties) a concern that if pistols are built on 5.45 kits, the BATF would stop the importation of cheap steel core ammo.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking for a second opinion. My own gunsmith/AK builder told me the same thing, too.

I have heard this and am kind of amuzed.......

Do to the fact there has never been (and never will) be any 5.45x39 steel core imported into the United States.

I have heard that there was a small amount imported a few years ago but that is all gone by now and none that would if ever be imported certainly wouldnt be any cheaper than the commercial stuff coming from wolf and others right now.

I have a friend who happened upon some AP 7.62x39 and that shit is worth a lot, cause it can't be imported any more.

If one was to find some AP 5.45x39 it would go for a King's ransom.

Exactly, I say, if you want a 5.45 pistol, build it. There is nothing illegal about it. If there was any 5.45 steel core ammo being imported currently, believe me, I would have a ton of it.

Here are both of my favorite ak's and the 545 model is pure pleasure, I can hit a pie plate a 100 yds with it.

The most likely reason the bullet attracts a magnet is because a vast majority of this and 7.63x39 projectiles have copper plated steel jackets.
Plus the cases are also steel.

Do you guys remember those bolt action East German Sniper Rifles that came in in 94 or 95? They came with a case of the millitary issue steel-core stuff, but nonetheless did not sell well because of the ammo issue. I am a lefty and shun bolt guns, but I know many guys who passed on those are kicking themselves.

I don't remember the rifles, but I did buy several cases of Chinese steel core 7.62x39 back in the late 80's for $59 a case of 1400 rds.

There's nothing bad about a screw build, other than his price being way too high.
For that price, I'd expect a rivet build.

well, i gotta say again hoplo, thanks for the pistol trunion, and ive turned a few buddies of mine onto the idea of buildin an AK pistol, ive put a red dot scope on mine, so i dont see why a laser sight cant be put on one.
im tryin to get my buddis to come into this forum, but the dont want to because there is no voice, there loss :ak:
