Does anyone have links to the SA closed-bolt sten conversions? I was thinking of doing a pistol build so I wouldn't need to worry about barrel length or US parts. Any thoughts of how difficult or expensive this would be?

I am considering doing this too, to fill my 9mm void. I was just looking at a nice semi auto sten kit, I'll have to find the site fore you. It was $270 for all of the parts, looks well built. It is made specifically for the Sten MKIII. With a welder, drill, and dremel, this would be a breeze. Much easier than an AK I think.

$270 is a little rich, but with kits so cheap, this could be doable. I have a drill, dremel, and access to a welder. Do you have a link to the kit?

Sorry. I missed the link you provided. Thanks!

i was going to work on it but i have no time. if anyone wants to trade an ak kit towards it let me know, thanks, aaron.

i also have an extra tube for it.

kit is complete with all parts and instructions.

i could even throw in the sten kit if the deal was right:)

a sten pistol sounds interesting. Hmmmm would the mag sticking out the side be considered a forward grip ? :seeyeah:

This item was covered in the Yahoo Stens group forum, I can't remember but I think there was an issue with the pistol idea. I seem to remember that you have to weld the back on so it can't be converted to a rifle and that meant you couldn't get the internals out for cleaning. They may have resolved the pistol issue but I never followed up on it so check out the Yahoo forums for more info.
I think building AK's is easier than Stens, they are expensive and need a lot of fine tuning to work with the SAS kits. It's not an issue with me as I wanted a Sten but they aren't as easy as some think if you use the SAS kit.

I think I have seen just wire frame pistol grips for stens. I would just stick that in there, and if you have to tack it on there to be legal.

It is possible to do. Someone (from the sten yahoo group) said that you would need to modify the pistol grip and the back of the receiver so it will only take that pistol grip. As long as it wont readily a stock you're ok. I was thinking of doing one with a vertical mag so it would be like a old tyme tec9 but cooler.
