Is it legal to build a pistol using screws? I have been questioning the whole thing; what is permanent enough?

Seems there are those that have concern that the screws in the rear block could be removed and a stock block be used in it's place. While this is possible also with screws as well as rivets, a person would totally STUPID to tempt fate by doing this.
Yes it is legal to build with screws.

*edit*
If you want total permanancy (is that a word?) weld the allen hole of the screw.

Thanks I was pretty sure it was legal, but I thought I might as well ask.

Since there is no ruling as to what is "permanent enough", it is better to make it "as permanent as possible", even rivets or welds can be undone. It is my opinion only, that making disassembly as hard as possible is or would be to way to go.
After all only death is permanent and everything man made can be undone. I'd rather be on the safer side.

I am not getting this. I am planning to build my M92 as a pistol, and I was told it was OK to put the original rear trunnion in, which accepts a folding stock. The reason this is OK is that as long as the new receiver does not have the holes cut for the stock assembly to attach, there is no way to attach it - it is not "readily able to accept" - you would have to remove the rear trunnion and drill holes in the receiver, then put the whole thing back together again.

I want to build the gun as a pistol, and I want to use the original trunnion as I plan to SBR it in the future. If I can't do this, I will get a trunnion made for a pistol from Hoplo74. I saw one, and they are SWEET !

So any opinions - is it OK for me to put a trunnion that accepts a folder into a pistol, as long as the receiver itself does not have the holes for the folder attachment mechanism to pass through ?

I'll take the Klinton approach on this one.
What is the definition of "readily"?
The dictionary defines readily as:
1-without difficulty
2-easily
3-effortlessly
4-with no trouble
5 smoothly

Now, if you are an experienced builder, modifying the receiver to accept a stock of any kind, your actions would fall into any of the definations above.

So I say, a unwelded trunion would be defined as "readily acceptable", as a stock could be attached with "no trouble".
