First of all congrats to all here on a great new forum! Judging by the volume of posts it was long over due.
Second, I just thought that I would state that I don't "get" the draw to the AK pistol. I understand that they look cool and that they are more easily carried, but I have a folder and when I shoot it with the stock folded, it is very hard to shoot accuratly or quickly.
I would like to have a true Krink type folder which is like your pistols with a folding stock, but when you take the buttstock away, it seems that you loose a great deal of the "performance".
So is this just strictly a close quarters combat type weapon that's more easily carried or what?
And don't get me wrong - really glad to see you guys enjoying the builds, etc., just as I read throught the posts, seems nobody talks much about actually firing them?
Is it more a "because we can" and collector thing?

Built an AK Pistol from an AMD-65 kit from Bocefus.
The build was under the eyes of experienced builders here on the Forum ( teadie, DeadMadMax,JayBird).
Had a new moly-coat finish put on by none other than the Master of Finishes (teadie).
Built with an optic side-rail and set up originally with a Kobra and an AK quick detachable bi-pod, I quickly went to a Weaver style high mount side slide on mount and a 4X fixed power pistol scope.
The thing is just too accurate for red dot shooting, and the scope helps achieve this.
The distances I am referring to are 50 yds & 100 yds.
A REAL HEAD TURNER AT THE RANGES!
Even greater accuracy was achieved by use of a bench bag.
Pics are in the Build II Forum.
A REAL FUN GUN!

A lot of people, including myself, like AK pistols for a number of reasons.
Reasons:
1. Some states do not allow ownership of SBR's (Short-Barreled Rifles). Having a pistol is one way of having something as nice as a Krink. If you want a stock put on, you would need to have a fake suppressor or other permanently-mounted attachment to have the barrel at 16 inches (18 inches in Michigan). Again, this is for states that don't allow SBR ownership.
2. In states, such as the one that I live in, that do allow ownership of SBR's, some people feel that they can't justify paying the extra $200 and waiting for a while for the OK to have a SBR.
3. If you do own a SBR and live in a town that's near another state, you can't take that SBR to an out-of-state shoot without getting permission from your local police chief, state police, and the BATFE. Some feel that this is a hassle. If someone from only one of those agencies has a bug up their ass for some strange reason and says NO, you can't take that SBR to that out-of-state shoot.
4. SBR's are usually more expensive than a pistol.

I think too, it's the small package with a hell of alot of firepower that intices people to want to own one.
It's unique in that there's no US parts required to build, which is a money saver.
Sand bagged on a bench or with the use of a bipod, these little things are just as accurate as any other AK rifle.
It's a personal choice and desire to own these.
I love them. :)

I dont know about notifying locals about taking a SBR out of state but I do know you need to file a form 5 with the ATF to move it out of state. I beleive a suppressor and a AOW you dont need a approved form 5.

I've shot my two AK pistols and they're a lot of fun. Like Ocala1 said, these are real head-turners at the range. I always get asked by someone at the range if they can shoot either of my pistols. Of course, the answer is YES. After that, they want to own one.

At first, when I saw all the pistols I asked......WHY, What is the POINT???
But after I thought long and hard about an SBR, the pistols kept coming to mind.
Ultimatly what I wanted was a gun for "SHTF CQB". Rather it was for a room to room situation or I needed more punch than a handgun from a vehicle (stationary or moving). Not to menton the weapon access for a fast exit from a vehicle.
Plus it would accept mags and ammo I already have a shit load of. Not to mention that the pistol caliber carbine market is way over priced and blown out of proportion.

They are basically a "no-hassle" sbr. And they are less expensive than building a rifle too.
OK, I get it now :D
Maybe I do need to build one... I've got all the tools...

EVERYONE WHO HAS SHOT MINE, WANTS ONE!
THREE PEOPLE ARE ALREADY BUILDING THIERS AND ARE ON teadies "list" to put a finish on each. One is going "semi-gloss black" and 2 are going " desert camo". Each decided to go with an optic rail. CDNN no longer has the "quick release" AK bi-pods. Pity, as the bi-pod and optics really make these things "SHOOT"!
Not to knock anyone else's finish, but the finishes that teadie puts on a gun cannot be beat in my opinion.

You're correct, they do draw a crowd, especially from the diehard "hunter types", shooting their Weatherby's, Remington, etc..
Be prepared to answer a multitude of questions. :)

teadie is a member here who does some of the best looking refinish work I've seen.
He has pics of his work in several threads throughout the board.
