Well I got out today with a few of my C&R rifles. Unfortunately the ammo for the MAS and the K-31 is expensive so I did'nt do any huge test, only fired a box of 20 through each.
First off, if you guys with type 03's don't have a K-31, take my advice and call up AIM and buy one. This is one sweet rifle. And it shoots great. The ammo I had was the FNP 7.5 Swiss. I have heard on the swiss rifle forum that the ammo was not to good(underpowered) but since the brass is reloadable it's worth buying to get the brass. Anyway, the first five rounds I sent down range made a nice little 2" group @ 100 yrd. Thats off a bench with rest. Now I'm sure with some good handloads that will improve. And I'm not the best shooter with iron sights. It did shoot to the right however about 4" right of point of aim. The sight tool for the k-31 is $40. so I'm gonna have to figure a way to move the front sight without one. Cause I ain't spending $40. on a sight tool. I really enjoyed this rifle today. I may buy another one for $139. what the hell....
The MAS is also very nice. Again I had bought some FNP 7.5 French and on Parrallx's board some of the guys were reporting under powered catridges and the stiff action on the MAS49/56 would not function properly with the FNP. I did not have a single malfunction with the 20 rounds I shot. Afer the first couple to make sure the rifle was OK, I loaded them in the mag 5 at a time. This rifle also shoots very well. Very smooth, hardly any felt recoil. It also is able to group pretty well. I was able to keep 5 rd groups in a 3" cirlce at 100yds. I'm sure both the rifles above are better than the shooter.
I also took along one of my m48a Yugo mausers as I had just aquired some Yugo 8mm surplus. This stuff is fantastic in the Yugo mauser. It cured my problem of shooting high. The Turk ammo shot really high in my Yugo mausers, all 3 of them. The heavier 196gr bullet in in the Yugo ammo sure helped that. It also seems more consistant. With the Turk ammo, some seem hotter than others. Lot of guys say this is dangerous but I have experienced no split cases or primers backing out or any other signs of high pressure. It just shoots high. Also, several on other boards reported troubles with the Yugo ammo, hangfires and hard extraction etc... This was a little disconserting to me, especially the hang fires, but I shot 40 rounds of it today with no problems what-so-ever.
Also took my little Makarov I just bought the other day. Nice little pistol. I chased a tin can around the 25yd plinking range with no problem. Shot a 50 rd box of Silver Bear hollow point ammo through it with nary a malfunction. No problems, $119. well spent.
So thats how I spent my day. Had a great time and did'nt even take an AK with me. Gasp......
