Recon, there never were any real "Tanker Garands". Two or three prototypes were tried. I believe a couple of them were made in the field and sent back to the US for evaluation. They were rejected for several reasons and one of those was excessive muzzle flash. Another was cycling reliability with issue ammo.

So, Tanker Garands are a made up fantasy weapon and have no Historical precedent.

Now the Garands modified to use an M14 mag are just about as expensive as a M1A Springfield "Standard" grade rifle. I see it as a bastardization of a historical action and think it shouldn't be done because it's destroying a piece of History. That being said they do work reliably from reports I've read about them.

Wasn't the M1 Carbine basically designed for rear echelon troops and vehicle crews? I have honestly never seen a "tanker" Garand. Is there a picture of one on the internet somewhere, recon?

Schuetzenman is totally correct about the "tanker" garand.

NC_REBEL, My grandfather originally had a Garand, but later had a Carbine during Okinawa.
