VZ or CZ52 Recon Rifles ;puke: ! They are a very strange weapon and all, repeat all the ammo available for them is; #1 corrosive and I meen big time corrosive and #2 Unreliable due to the worst primers on earth!
No other country made the 7.62 X 45 but the Czech's. Only source of ammo is surplust Czech ammo. See above for what's wrong with the ammo.
At one time there was a guy that advertised putting a new barrel on them chambered in 7.62 X 39 Russian. But this was about $200+ if memory serves me.
IMO unless you are just looking for another weapon to stick in the collection and are not concerned with a lack of usable ammo for it, you and everybody should pass on a Czech CZ or VZ52 rifle.

I have VZ-52 with that black textured finish on the wood. It is definately one of those "look what I got in my collection" rifles.

Check my website for my first and second firing of my VZ. I love it. Its not without trouble as I bought one that has minor issues, but it has original wood.
Ammo for now is dirt cheap. When its gone though, that's it, must reload. Brass can be bought or made from other cases (on the Parallax board someone has the details), or you can get the chamber insert for 7.62x39 and be happy.
Definitely a fineley made gun, I love it. It shoots really well, and as for corrosiveness, the ammo is no more corrosive than say Turk 8mm. Its just that the VZ has a gas system that needs cleaning and you get to visually SEE the effects of corerosive ammo fresh and not hidden rather than on your patch after you swab a bore. If you find one, buy it. They aren't exactly common!

Thanks Ezra. Great site. Looks like a ton of useful information on the VZ. Mine doesn't look nearly as good a s those do though.

The VZ-52 is a fine weapon hindered by it's odd caliber and the paint Century apes slathered over it to make it more marketable. If you absolutely cannot stand the paint, as I could not, there is a way to remove it. Albeit very time consuming. Take a dremel tool with a medium sander or some medium sandpaper by hand and smooth the stock till the pebbly texture of the paint becomes nondescript smooth black. Now, lay on the laquer thinner. Be sure you are wearing gloves and are outside, as laquer thinner will eat your brains. Inevitably, there are a few spots which require further sanding to remove all paint. Of course, you will also have to refinish the stock after this treatment. BTW, lots of people reload for the 7.62x45 mm. Check out Parallax's forum and look up some of the posts by RBNTHF. Or to the Yahoo Curio and Relic Discussion group. He runs a site which has excellent details on reloading and maintenence issues.
I have 2 of those rifles. 1 has a very nice wood stock on it and the other has the poly coated stock.
They are neat to shoot.
I have a good bit of ammo for them and so far I have had no missfires in over 500 rounds. But hell it's bound to happen some time. I've had a(1) miss fire from a M44 using Russian surplus ammo and I have had missfires from Wolf in an AK(which is why I won't buy Wolf I'll use Barnaul or Ulyonovsk).
I got both of my rifles from a member of assaultweb.
