Can an AMD65 parts kit be legally assembled into a pistol by an individual using a commercially made, 100% receiver as long as the receiver manufacturer is notified to log the receiver as a pistol receiver, a rear pistol trunnion is installed and the forward pistol grip is removed? Any other hoops to jump through to make doing this legal? Are receiver manufacturers even willing to do the pistol receiver paperwork change?
It'd be a real shame if this wasn't legal since the AMD65 already has such a nice, short barrel which requires an extension for a legal rifle build while requiring nothing at all for a pistol.

Here's the answers to your questions.
#1 The manufacturer does not need to be informed how the receiver was used as. (pistol or rifle)
#2 A pistol/rifle may be built on any 100%, 80%, or bent receivers.
#3 A rear trunion block not readily able to accept a stock of any type must be used.
#4 No forward grip may be used. (grip requires AOW status)
#5 The only hoops required to jump through, are the ones imposed by your city, county, or state laws.
#6 Once again, the manufacturers are not required to be informed as to which cinfiguration the receiver may be built. (rifle/pistol)
#7 Yep, the AMD's are great in either configuration. If you are planning to shorten the barrel to, say, 8 inches, then any AK kit will do just fine.
I hope this answers your questions.

Thanks! That explanation is as clear as a bell (and unlike anything I've been able to find in any other forum on this topic).

#4 No forward grip at an angle to the barrel (ie forward pistol grip) may be used. (grip requires AOW status)
Best answer I have seen Slam. Hope you don't mind my expanding it a little for a new guy.

No problem.
I should have defined grip. As many of us here know, a grip (as in pistol grip) is different than handguards.
Glad you elaborated on that for me.
