View Full Version : Last(?) Pistol Build

Due to the circumstances with the imported barrel thingy, this may be my last pistol build. :( :(

I wanted to do this totally different than the previous ones I've built. Unless you enjoy shooting an AK pistol offhand, which I don't, sandbags are the only option left.
To keep from lugging around a bunch of bags, I decided to use a bipod. An AMD-65 lower HG is used, and a AR-15 accessory rail was modified to fit.
It works very well, and carrying is made easy when the legs are folded under the barrel. The upper HG will be a match to the lower. I'm in the process of building it now.
I'm trying to decide which brake to use. It will be permanently attached, so making the right decision is critical.
The choices are...
M-16 short birdcage FH
AK-74
AMD-65
Krink funnel type
Slant
Any suggestions as to which brake to use?

Did you make up that front sight gas block thingie? Interesting thing using the bipod. They are a bit heavy for offhand, unless two hands are used. On the flash hider break thing, I don't know what is best. Considering all the muzzle rise I get out of my recent build I'd say any device that shoots the gasses straight up would be the ticket for taming muzzle jump. For raw flash hiding, as short as these barrels are I don't know if anything can minimize the fire ball.

Looks good slamfire, I like the amd hg's, very different. I just got a birdcage type fh for my pistol and I'm happy with the way it looks. I also like the krink style too but it adds what,3" to the length? I want pistol barrels to be short as possible (but thats just me). Ocala1 uses a bipod on his pistol, it's a good idea. These things are not lite in any configuration. I just may end up doing the same with a bipod, it's kinda hard freehanding this thing, even with the shortened barrel. Whatever you come up with, I'm sure it will look great.

droog, it's not finished. Been having some diabetic related probs, so everything is kind of on the back burners with my builds. I plan on getting back to it soon though, I just have to stay off my feet for a while. I will post some pics as soon as I get back in the swing of things. :D

:dunno:
Would be nice to know where to pick-up AMD-65 kits !
:jump:
Have a few ideas on different concepts I would like to build.
:jump:
A bipod is THE WAY TO GO !
Wish I could show pics of my first AK Pistol, maybe toxic or teadie can do so for me. When the "Desert Camo" is done on my latest AK Pistol, maybe teadie will snap and send some pics for me and post them. Had teadie put a "finish" on each and every one on my AKs, both long and short. his latest version of finishing is to polish out, park, then apply the final finish. That way there are no "bright" lines from the safety/selector movement, or by the mag well.
:handgun:
A optic side-rail is a must, in my opinion. I found I like a EER (pistol) scope in 4x better than the Kobra or other red dots.

Hey toxic, while your re-couperating take a spin down and help shoot up some ammo.

Toxic,
I'm sorry to hear you're having health problems. Hey, take care of yourself so you can get back to this building craze.
My prayers, and I'm sure everyone's here are with you for a speedy recovery.

Yep, I think bipods are the way to go with these. Mine is detachable, which makes it more versitile. A side rail is in the works just as soon as I can locate one. :)

Schuetzenman, the gasblock/sight combo was made from a Romy kit (as is this pistol) and the front sight was cut to the contour of the gasblock profile and silver soldered. Saved big bucks over a factory GB/S combo.
