Well, here's the AK Pistol I built with one of the Armory receivers. Ironically I finised this pistol first despite building an AMD63 first. Finish is satin teflon black Gun Kote. Rear sight is highlighted with flat white GK. She's mighty purty! :woot Next I'm blasting and painting my AMD63 project in flat moly black GK. Photos to follow next week.

Oh and this is an Armory USA 1 mm type 2 receiver. Sweet to build with.

Schuetzenman, That's one SWEET build.
I've gotta get one of those grips. I've been meaning to for a while now. Makes the pistol look sooo much better.

Those grips are super comfortable and you can store stuff in them, I keep a bunch of earplugs in mine because I always forget to bring them to the range. Better not do any bump firing without wearing a glove on your left hand though, those exposed gas tubes heat up real quick like.

Thanks guys. Yes the saw grip is da ticket for the handguns, gives more area to hang on with. I was surprised how loud they were, lots of muzzle flip if you don't hang on up front. I may go for the AOW permit on this so I can put a forward grip on it in the future.

Better get after it if you want to have it done by Christmas. I hear that form 1 s are taking longer than usual lately. :big:

Looks good man, I espically like the high lighted numbers on the rear sight!

Schuetzenman, could you tell me more about the sight paint? I'd like to do the same to one of my AK's.

Not speaking for Schuetzenman, but I have used plastic model paint that comes in the little glass jars at hobby shops, Wally-World and others.
I would only use it after you test an area that won't show, because you have to wipe the excess off with paint thinner. Some paints like grill paint, engine paint and others may not hold up to the thinner.

I've used red and white to highlight the graduations and numbers on sights.

Been off line for 1.5 weeks so here's my 2 cents on it. KG Industries makes the Gun Kote product. The highlighted numbers are done with white Gun Kote. Gun Kote is based in MEK solvent, so it's super watery in nature. It will take about 3 aplications to get the white dense enough to look good. I use a tooth pick to dip into the paint then let it whick into the numbers. Then it's bake on just as the original Gun Kote black Teflon finish was.

It is 100% impervious to any solvent or gun cleaner you will come up with. It will not yellow with age or heat as model paints will. I accidently baked a rear sight with white hobby paint in the letters once and she turned pale yellow. Looked just like some original high lighted rear sights on a German K98k that I had in my collection so ........there's a tip for people wanting to phony up sights to make them look old. Bake it at 300 for an hour and she'll go all aged looking. ;)

Thanks, Shuetzenman. Do you use a solvent to remove the excess or can you just wipe it off before it dries? I'm sure you can't keep GK from getting on the surrounding areas.

You cant have a vertical "pistol grip" but is it legal to have a horizontal grip, say a piece of 3/4" copper/aluminum tubing on stand offs below the bottom handguard, running parralel to the grip ... then you could hold it with your off-hand LAWS rocket style...

Your off hand would be pulling DOWN on the handle (like doing a pull-up on a bar..)And Im sure it would control the gun, and it wouldnt be a grip at a right angle to the bore...would it?? LOL

Just food for thought...

Take a thin fine weave cloth rag and dip it in some acetone or it could even be rubbing alcohol. Squezze out the excess and then strech it over your finger tip. Wipe lightly against the surface of the sight and the excess will be cleaned from the surface. If it streaks a little move the cloth to bring a fresh paint free surface to bear on the situation. Two or three swipes this way and it should be clean and crsip.
