I ended up with one of the CDNN "Target" brand 45mm/5moa red dot's in a pile of odds & ends...along with a mount (that Bubba filed on -cleaned it up best as I could):

The markings are my doing.

These sell in the same range as the Wally World BSA 30mm device. Any experience/opinions on these?

It seems to have held up thus far.

Lollygagger :letssee: Do these come with brass thumb nuts?

Never seen one of those. If it works, it works :).

The problem with cheap red dots usually (that can be easily hidden), is the fact they have such a large MOA value, that any minor amount of "zero loss" won't really be noticed. That's because there's so much leeway with the size of the dot on a target.

But as I said. If it works, it works. I'm not usually a fan of mounting stuff on top of the carry handle because it eliminates any possibility of a decent cheek weld.

Yeah, it is pretty "broad" with the usual cheapie 5moa dot size. I just consider it a quick combat distance sight -nothing longer.

I guess I've gotten used to living w/o a cheek weld from AK rifles that have red dots on the side mounts -they usually are quite high as well.

Actually, I really don't see the advantage much of the tube size on these as field of view is not a issue -as they don't magnify & you shoot them with both eyes open (at least, I do).

I may put a quality 1" tube red dot on this particular AR.

Lollygagger (thanks fo rthe response)

Always glad to respond.

I too shoot both eyes open. I have a weak left eye or "lazy eye" that was corrected when I was younger. It's not lazy anymore but the focus of that eye is far from perfect. I can shoot both eyes open with any optic and keep it on target. Kinda like it almost.

Try looking for a cantliver mount( I butchered the spelling of that BAD), if you're up for spending a few bucks, which I'm sure you aren't. ;) But they are worth looking into. Gives nearly an illuminated co-witness with your A2 upper and iron sights /w the Red Dot tube.

Yeah! Now I know what those funny looking mounts do...

I'd like that (my Fal co-witnesses). I see them for sale -they seem priced resonably. i think I'll grab me one.

Thanks, lollygagger :rockin:
