Have seen these new ATI Mauser 98 Stocks in shotgun news...anyone tried them out? They look kinda cool, but how to the feel/hold up, and how does the scope mount work out?
What model of Mauser 98 works the best? Turks, Yugos, Persians?

Info Please, thanks

I saw one at a gun show. It looked ok but kinda cheap. It looks just like the styer scout. I am gonna get on though and try it out on a poor man's sniper rifle project. The sight rails are plastic and I dont like that.

I bought a beat-to-sh*t '38 Turk for $30, for the expres purpose of sporterizing, and trying out this stock, WESCOG style all the way.

It's in deplorable condition in terms of finish, the wood is disgusting, the cleaning rod is bent and nearly impossible to remove, and the numbers don't match. It's only saving grace: a nice bore. It's going along on the next outing to see if it shoots worth a damn at all.

Hearsay to some on the C&R list maybe, but I'm going to strip it, cut the barrel down to 20", stone the face square, and take a stab at bending the bolt with a vise and a MAPP torch. (I'm not going to bother with the crummy bolt conversion ATI sells.)

I'll re-crown with valve grinding compound and a dome headed screw chucked in an electric drill. Then wet-sand and dremel polish the whole thing, and apply oxpho blue paste. Maybe pay my neighbor to beadblast the whole thing first, then blue to get a nice tactical "mall-ninja" look to the metal.

At $70 for this stock, I know one gets what one pays for, but I'm going to take a stab at it and make a poor-mans "super-cala-futeristic pseudo scout-sniper" with that Turk. I'll put my el-cheapo Bushnel 4x32 Sportview on it and test. If I pull off a miracle, a better scope, Harris bipod, and a Timney trigger might be in it's future, but I doubt it, but I expect to have fun trying.

It'll be an "It's the journey, not the destination" kind of thing.

Me too. If nothing more it is a fun project to hone skills. I just polished the hell out of an old Mosin with the dremel. This one is a crap gun that I will be re-blueing eventually too, but its kind of nice in the white...
