I always forget CDNN has surplus Yugo 8mm in stock. It's $37.99 per case of 375 rounds, free shipping.

I just ordered two cases. The stuff I got from them last time which is the same I think is dated 1952. Shoots good in the Yugo's high in the Turks.

Guy on the phone was a prick today. I hate that. Usually they're pretty nice.

BTW, they don't have any AK's. I think others have already said that but I thought I'd repeat it.

Redstar you said "I always forget CDNN has surplus Yugo 8mm in stock. It's $37.99 per case of 375 rounds, free shipping.

This is the exact opposite from shooting turk in Yugo, meaning I have a yugo M-98 and am shooting turks (I think)

So if the charge in turks is more and the slug lighter than Yugo how in blue blazes is what you are saying possible? Mac

Its the way the sights are calibrated I think. I'm sure Shuetzenmann knows the details, all I know is I took a Yugo out one day with Turk ammo and it shot way high. A few months later, I took a Turk out with Yugo ammo and it shot way high.

I pondered that myself for awhile in the last few days while I was considering 8mm ammo purchases... but last night I was searching through some old posts and I saw one where Shetzenmann was saying it's the way the sights are set. I'll leave it to him to explain.

I haven't had a chance to shoot Turk in a Turk or Yugo in a Yugo yet. Who know's maybe one of the rifles is hosed.

Also, the bullet shapes are different. Refer to this post where Shuezenman first set me straight on the turk/yugo differences. His post is about five or six down from the start. I saw another one last night where he went into more detail but I can't find it right now. This was the case where my Turk was shooting Yugo ammo high.

The 900rd tins of Yugo 8mm from Coles is a better deal. $65/900 only .07/rd

Mine is 1957 headstamp and is great in my M48's and 24/47 Solved the shooting high problem. I was shooting Turk before I bought this Yugo.

Sounds good from Coles, but the stuff from CDNN didn't have a shipping charge so that helps too.

I believe it's the barrel twist rate and bullet weight which makes them inaccurate with the wrong ammo.

Sorry guys I can't tell you the exact height difference between a M48 / K98k and a Turk M38. I just know from shooting both distinct types of 8 mm Masuer that they definitely shoot differently with each others ammo.

Yes, Euro Mausers shoot 12 to 18 inches high with the 157 gr. Turk ammo. Yes, Turks shoot high with the Yugo or other Euro brand of 198 gr. 8 mm ammo.

M48's and K98k's have shorter barrels by almost 5 inches. Residence time in the barrel is shorter. Turnks OTOH have almost 30 inch barrels. Their ammo is stroking out at almost 2900 fps! That's good and fast. They Yugo ammo is about 2,600 fps.

Guess I need to get out my calipers and measure sight heights over the barrel for each type to try and make sense of it. ;)

I had gotten 380 rounds of 150 grain (I think) Romanian 8mm Mauser ammo from AIM Surplus back in June, which works out to be .078 cents/rd.

What do you guys think about the Romanian ammo? AIM said it was "the cleanest corrosive 8mm ammo". I think it was made in '56.

Is it true that the Romanian is the cleanest? If not, what are the cleanest brands?

I don't know what corrosive ammo is the cleanest? Define cleanest for one thing. Isn't that an oxymoron to put the words "cleanest" and "corrosive" in the same sentence? ;)

You've got to clean the hell out of them with it being corrosive so I never worried about "carbon" buildup if that's what you mean by "cleanest".
