He's outta luck when it comes to a patent....
STUPID POS GUNS NET wont let me post the URL to my site to show my gun off.. go to photobucket com and look up JPGlee1 and you will see the pics...
Ive had a firing 9mm AK clone since 1999... he'd better be ready to pay up :)
Its NOT a SAIGA, its a .055" sheetmetal receiver made from 3 pieces of metal. The rear is approx 1.5" shorter than an AK. It uses a custom Trunnion for an UZI BBL. unlocked bolt straight blow back. bolt is modified to stay in the rear, but unlocked position. It uses standard AK FCG parts. Shortened topcover. Shortened recoil spring. Custom mac-11 magwell for STEN mags. 30rd STEN mags w/a perm. welded in block to 10rds (From before the ban expired...) on the followers.... Central paddle mag release. Handguard is from a MAK-90, stock from a old remington shotgun.....
That shiny "square" area in the bolt carrier (about the middle) is the notch you gotta mill in there to allow the bolt to float in the rear unlocked position so the extractor channel lines up correctly... Also needed to get access to the bolt to remove the FP/Extractor. You cant simply weld the 2 together unless you plan to never repair it LOL... You also have to rework the bolt head a little by adding some metal and sanding it back down at and angle to mesh with that slot you mill out... I used a 3/32" 4 flute stub end mill in my drill press w/a rotary/traverse table to cut the slot. I used a dial indicator on the quill guiderod thing (with the scale/ruler on it) to keep track of the depth of cut. It worked great at 850rpm. BUT I also welded the chuck to the quill so it doesnt need a draw bar (or else the chuck could conceivably jump ship from side loads...a 3/32" endmill will most likely bust off first however...)I suppose it could wear out your DP eventually but I just needed to mill the one slot and didnt wanna pay $60-100 at the local hack shop....
seems to work OK... THe bolt/carrier combo is 14ounces total... The bolt has quite a lot of travel because I put the magazine to the front most edge of the AK74 magwell cutout, this gives me something like 1" longer travel to the bolt.. I dunno it works OK. I havent shot much thru it, its a work in progress....
The recoil spring is an AK-74 spring w/out the standard double link guide rod inside it... because it takes experimenting for each rifle Im not gonna tell you what length it is, if mine is too short it could hurt someone. it is shorter than stock AK by over an inch.... It uses an UZI style recoil spring guide rod/topcover latch assembly (holds the cover on like an AK latch does)...
I used to have one that LOOKED like an AK too, but in 2000 CALI did the ban thing and I had to cut it up... oh well...
ENJOY :)
JP :handgun:
Also...I built it when I was 19 :)
Have a good one!
