Has anyone completed a 80% receiver from Tannery Shop?

No but I would suspect the effort isn't worth it unless you have access to milling equipment...

Thanks for the reply 101. I have the shop equipment but it sure would be nice to hear from someone that has done it. The problem is that I want to build a pistol and since Ruger won't sell bare receivers (unlike say Bushmaster for the AR) I'll need to finish an 80%.

Yes I have... The problem is it is very hard stainless steel. I would probably not build another one, it was hard to make the arch on the front where the barrel sits and a real pain in the butt to tap the holes due to the hardness. But it can be done if you have the time and know how.
If I were you I would just buy a complete receiver on gunbroker or auction arms and have it transfered as a pistol. If you transfer it as a rifle and make a pistol it will be illegal.

Hello Jericho,
Good to hear that someone out there has done this. I would love to buy a completed receiver but since Ruger won't sell them anything available at the auctions would have been originally a rifle. As I understand it, the receiver that I need should never been part of a rifle.
It's good to hear that you were successful. A few additional questions for you: Did you make a pistol? If so, how short was your barrel? Was there a cycling problem with the shortened barrel?
Thanks again,
Jericho

No I made a rifle. I have seen the volquartzen (sp) pistols but have never thought of trying to make one. I would check with an FFL and ask them about transfering a receiver as a pistol, just in case it could be that easy. I know you can get the aftermarket receivers but be ready to give your fisrt born for it. And as long as you drill the magazine indents in the right place you should not have a feeding problem.

The cheapest aftermarket recievers I know of is the MOA, $168. It's also stainless steel and will take either a slip in barrel or a threaded barrel.

It was a fun project and if you like to tinker I would recomend trying it once. If you are looking for a cheap way of doing it this is not it.
