I can't stop...........
Here's a work in progress. Building this one from a Romy kit. It's got a 13" barrel and I installed a optic side rail on this one for red dot and EER scopes.
The sight is modified to ride atop the Romy gasblock. It'll be Gun Koted when all the metal work is completed.
This one is a run of the mill configuration, but I like it. :big:

That is a nice modification of a Romy into a pistol.

:up:Thanks...
It'll look better as time goes by. It's a "do as I have time" project.

OK, I found some spare time this weekend. It's hotter than Hades outside, so some inside work was called for. :big:
I finished up the metal work, and refinished a HG set I got from Ezra Coli.
I also made a rear swivel since Hoplo74 will be a while having more made up.
The metal is Gunkoted and I used a mixture of RIT dye on the HG's. Finish on the wood is 5 coats of MINWAX fast drying polyurethane. The pics do not do the color of the HG's justice.

Really Outstanding!
Wow! Now that is what I call inspiration! Looks fantastic Slamfire51!
I've never done any kind of build but after seeing this I think I'm going to have to give it a try. Besides getting a kit what else am I going to need to do to build something like that? What kind of tools do you need?

Nice! Been wondering what method of weld/solder are you using for your modified front site block? What I mean is that can I do this with a propane torch or will I need to find somebody to weld it for me.

I used a MAPP torch, found at any hardware store, and 1100 degree silver solder.

Looks great Slam, I've been looking for silver solder but cant seem to locate any at the local Lowes/Home depot. Where do you get the stuff?

I got the sticks from a HVAC shop down the road. It comes in straight sticks w/orange external flux. You'll need at least a MAPP torch to melt it.

Mapp torch I've got, HVAC shop I'll have to hunt down. Thanks for the info.
I've found high temp silver solder at a welding supply store and at a hobby store with the jewlry making supplies, just asked for 1200 degree silver solder and they showed me to 1100 degree stuff, same difference right?

Did the silver solder come in a roll or a straight stick????
roll of wire and a seprate jar of flux. Tips?

If it came in a roll, it doesn't have enough nickel content.
WON'T work for sight modifications.
The stuff I use is the diameter if a wooden pencil lead, with ORANGE external flux which is made onto the rod.
No seperate flux needed.

I've used a propane/oxygen torch to silver solder (paste) muzzle breaks. I think I'll give the rod a try to attach a front sight like that. How does it stand up to recoil, being knocked around, etc? I wouldn't have thought it would be strong enough.
The little O2 tanks are rediculously expensive and only last a few minutes. I have access to medical O2. Is there any reason that I can't use that instead? Or am I a Darwin Award waiting to happen?

Lamron,
I've never had anything come loose yet. There's always the first time.
I'm not a welder, but it may be better to have someone MIG (??), TIG (??)
weld the parts in place. I don't know which welding process would be best, as I am NOT a welder.

I've been tempted to do this for quite a while now.
I'm going to make the lastest pistol into a combo. I'll be able to "quick change" barrels and rear trunions (that's the beauty of a screw build).
Some may ask, "Why don't you just buy another receiver?".
My answer is,"cause I don't want to". :nanaboo:
I'm stripping the wood now, and getting the metal ready to paint. :)
Got the handguards stripped and dyed. This is what they look like before the poly is applied. Looks a bit like a walnut finish or red mahogony now, but should match the pistol HG's above.

Thanks!!
By run of the mill, I mean there's no extreme barrel, gastube, or piston modification.
