Working out side I found this Huge bug. Never seen one of these and I am curious as to what it is. Did not have a ruler to measure but, I did have something you all can relate too.

Very cool, but I have no clue.
Be sure to preserve it in alcohol.
A few years ago, I read that most insects had yet to be named.
About 15 years ago, I was working at a factory when one of the guys found a large (the size of a man's little finger) insect that had huge pincers on some cargo that just arrived. Naturally, everybody began messing with it. One guy took a pencil and stuck the erasure in front of the insect, which promptly used its mandibles to take a large hunk out of the erasure. That got everybody's attention. Still, we kept messing with it.
Suddenly, and without warning, the insect's hardshell split in two and it flew right at one of the guys messing with him. Have you ever seen 20 men all try to get through a standard sized door all at once?:lool: And yes, I was one of the guys running for his life! To this day, I have no clue what that mean assed insect was.

Looks like a mole cricket. I'm not too familiar with the regional sub-species, but the ones in the southeastern U.S. have more prominent wings (and are pests, they eat the roots of grass). Five of the seven sub-species are found in North America.
Damn, 8dDUCE beat me to it.

There were no wings on this sucker. Found him in a pile of weeds I cut the day before. Picked up the pile to haul it off and this little critter came scurrying out. Once I cornered him he just let me pick him up with the shovel and take him to the drive way where these pictures where taken.
Lived in the south west all my life except for two years in Colorado and never run into one of these. I am very observant too. Gotta be, Don't want to step on any snakes.
Yup, .45 and .223 brass. This bug was BIG. Put two .45 cases together and that is how big this guy was.

It's a Jerusalem Cricket aka Potato Bug. They are related to mole crickets and can bite the crap out of of you, but they are non-poisonous.

They can get pretty big, I had a German Shepard that would eat Mole Crickets, they can destroy your lawn, Sevin dust works pretty good. 8dDUCE.

That's about average size that I've seen, but they do get upwards of 2 to 2 1/2 inches long.

I don't have grass on my property. I live in the high Northern AZ desert. Humidity is usually around 2%. So I keep the area around my house free of weeds. I have bare gound with some trees here and there. With rose bushes and irises around for landscaping. I also did not notice any little holes around the bases.

Never saw any when I lived in Flag either. Lived across the freeway from Walmart towards lake mary, then on the west side of Milton across from target, and finally over at Country Club. Well, then I wasn't worried about snakes in Flag either. I had a out doord job too, Surveying. Saw alot of stuff though.

That's Xvwszic!
It's been reported as AWOL since the last stand-to on the Mothership "Xvsii" behind your moon. It has had a history of a problem with following orders.
We'll send a scout craft to Arizona to pick it up.
Thanks for your concern.
OH -- a word of caution -- please cause it no harm, and do not move fast in its presence. Whatever you do, especially for your sake, do not kill it.
ESPECIALLY for your sake.

Albino mole cricket, they will eat up your grass. You can see all the small raised tunnels that they leave in your yard.
Buy some Mole cricket bait to get rid of them.

I have seen many of them and have always been told they are called child of the earth, because if you look close at their head it kinda resembles a baby's head and also if you torture them sometimes they will make crying sounds similar to a baby.

I've always referred to it as a Jerusalem cricket, first encountered when I move to CA from CO.

No kidding. When I turn over a rock, I get ready to move really, really fast. Never step off a rock over hang with out jumping at least two feet away.
throw rocks ahead when walking thru thick brush or rockies areas.
Use a walking stick when ever I can. These are very handy.
These are just a few rules I use from all the years I used to work as a surveyor. Seems like every where we needed to go, we had to hump it in with all our gear. If you couldn't tell by now. I HATE snakes. If I know its there, it doesn't bother me. If it surprises me, forget it. Can't get me within 20 feet of it. Had a snake strike me in the leggings one time. Something I don't want to repeat.

Went back today, armed with a plastic butterdish with holes in the top, a fishing fly with the hook snipped off with two foot of line to coax him out.
And I got him, hes a Mexican blonde tarantula, from what Ive been reading on the internet.
The home owner where I caught it was going to kill it so now i have a new pet in my terrarium..
