I admit I've first heard about this rifle inside this forum.
If I've caught it, we're talking about a magnificent M16-shaped weapon but chambered for 7,62 ammo.

My question are: why is it so underrated? Why, when we speak about .308 rifles, are all so concerned only with AKs and no one refers to AR10s? I'm amazed that this forum's section is almost forsaken...

Just to clear things up, the AR-10 shoots 7.62*51mm (.308 nato) the Ak-47 shoots 7.62*39mm.

My guess on the unpopularity of the AR-10 is as follows.

When it first came out I think it had some reliability problems (anyone know for sure?) I'm pretty sure it was out of production for a while, unlike the AR-15. It lacks the popularity that comes with being adopted by the US military. It tends to have a pretty big price tag (about 200 more than an Ar-15 last time I price shopped). There are a number of good semi-auto .308 nato rifles out there for a lot less. Cetme, Saiga, G3, and FAL. For example, a CETME costs about 300.00 (or used to), and 20 rnd mags for it are dirt cheap. AR-10 would cost 1000+, and because we are not fully recovered from the effects of the AWB, I'm sure the lack of cheap hi-caps for the AR-10 didn't help it.

I expect it will grow in popularity though.

yeah, for a long time everyone had AR10's that didnt work.

it seems the reliability issues have been solved by a new design of mags, which are also going to be replaced soon by another design which is AR10 only (not converted M14 mags). they also started using another style of extractor which boosted reliability issues a lot.

So you're saying that its main problem is the price?
Is it a easy-jamming rifle?

I'd like to see the Bushmaster .308 drop in price. The fact that it uses FAL mags is a big plus as far as I'm concerned.
