Hello all.
Please help me out because I want this build to be as legal as possible,
Actually, you NEED this build to be totally legal.
You are 20 years old and cannot legally own a pistol. Stop there.

Well, I can legally be in possesion of one, but I cannot actually purchase one.
Can I just take my father and the receiver back to my FFL and have him change the 4473 form to be a "Pistol" instead of a "Long Rifle"?

Build this one as a rifle, order another receiver to arrive after your birthday, and build a pistol. Life is too short to be a test case.

Once the entries are made on a 4473, they CANNOT be altered.
If it's on the 4473 as a stripped receiver and entered as a long gun , then it has to be a rifle. If any criminal acts are incurred with the gun while or after it's in your possession, the "Boys" will be looking for a rifle, not a pistol.
Then you will discover you are in DEEP SHIT by altering a rifle to a pistol configuration.
One alternate may be to transfer the receiver back to the FFL (IF IT HASN'T BEEN BUILT YET) and retransfer back to you and indicate a stripped pistol receiver this time. In your dad's name ofcourse. Because a stripped receiver is considered neither a pistol or rifle until it is built into one or the other.
Your dad can give you a bill of sale to you when you turn 21.

Just a FYI on handgun ownership by humans under the age of 21. Each state differs, so check your state rules. Here in Indiana, a person can get a carry permit at age 18, but can't buy a handgun until 21, BUT a person age 18 - 21 with a carry permit can own and carry a handgun that was given to them by a parent or guardian.

Are there any ways I can go about this without having to take the receiver back up to J&G's? Reason im asking is that my rivets are already in place and I do not want to trash a perfectly good receiver because J&G's could not fill out the paperwork properly.
Please let me know,
~Zach
BTW: Would it be legit if I "traded" the rifle to my father and then had him go up and register it as a pistol?

Simply.....NO and NO.
The only option is build a rifle.
