IMO it's scrap iron. I got this today. It was sold as VG conditon for $69. I've seen the $39. ones from AIM and they are in 10X better condition than this.

WHO said THAT is VG???? Geez and I thought SOG had bad ratings.....

Blueing is almost completely gone and rust on the muzzle end of the barrel and some on the receiver. I'm disappointed that Samco would send this, while showing a picture that looks like this

These ratings are strange if you ask me. I bought this as Good conditon shooter grade

And this was sold to me as very good condition:

Was somebody on Crack when they picked that as a VG? IMO that's a Good at best and that would depend on what the bore condition is like.

It is kind of nice the leather sling loops are on it but . . . . Naaaah it isn't a VG condition weapon.

Unfortunately you are learning what it is like to order weapons mail order. I have a hard time too getting in surp rifles or handguns that are in as advertised condition!

You order a batch of rifles (or I do :D) and you try to get the best condition weapons for resale or to keep in your case. Then you get them and 1/4 to 3/4's of them are crap and you need to send them back. You've got to read the fine print of who you deal with or you can get hosed on restocking fees and stuff. Not to mention the loss of money in the form of return postage.

You might want to throttle back and only get stuff from AIM when they have stock. Got to be a lot less hassle being able to see the stuff in person.

Ahhh I see you made another post while I was posting. SAMCO sent that POS as a VG! Man that's not like them from what I've seen of them in the past. Maybe they hired a temp to fill the order!

Oh BTW is that a Finish Mosin or a Soviet 91/30?

It's got russian markings on it but supposedly they are Finn captures.

They try to hit me with restock and I will call the CC company and have the charges reversed. IMO, they did not sell me something in as advertised condition. It's their fault they are restocking it, not mine. And it does'nt cost anything to throw a rifle in the dumpster does it :D

You tell em. They are some arrogant pricks at times. Buch of snoty Cubans is all I've ever gotten to talk to.

I'm very surprised you got that from Samco. hey usually grade their stuff acurately.

I got better Mosins than that on my 3 fer $99 from Century awhile back. The stocks were scratched and dinged badly but the finish was still on the rifles at least. I'd rate that as a fair max, if the barrels worn I'd call it a poor parts gun.

You didn't mention the bore but that aside I'd say it's NRA fair to good. That's assuming all parts are in good working order with little or no repair needed. The stock looks dirty but intact. I have to admit that except for missing the front sight, my worst Ufixem looks better by half than that. SAMCO screwed the pooch that's for sure.

my 29 dollar m44's are much better. What a shame, I was going to order one this week.

zouave, you were going to order the $69. VG from Samco? Let me ask you this. If they put the picture I took up above of the rifle they sent me and used it on their website to sell these "VG" 91/30 would you have considered buying one?

Now antoher question. Samco has "VG" Persian Mausers for $229 w/bayo or $189. rifle only. Now would you take a chance with that kind of money on a "VG" if what I got was a VG 91/30?

Here is the Persian

http://www.samcoglobal.com/images/lgp2_6.jpg

Now I'd assume that rifle is the collector grade rifle for $549. I'd be scared to death to order a VG knowing it might show up with 30% blue and pitted spots all over it.

I am not flamming Samco here, just trying to figure out this grading scale.

Send it back but keep the cleaning rod as just compensation! Tell them, of course, AND tell them you expect a VG gun, spell it out, how much blue you expect, etc. The cleaning rod on a 91/30 is worth twenty bucks alone, and so is the sling. But th rifle you got looks more like a Century "Good" condition, like ones I got for $25 each.

Send it back, bro.

Ezra, the cleaning rod is all pitted up with some rust on it. Still worth $20? No sling, just those hang tags or whaterver they are.

From Samco's website:

Samco's Grading Criteria - Firearms
Unissued:

Original factory condition. 100% original metal finish. May have Storage/Inventory marks.

Used:

EXCELLENT

90% of original metal finish, Bore, Like New, No pitting. May have Storage/Inventory marks. Very little marring of the wood.

Special Select

80% of original metal finish. Some dings & dents on wood, Clean bore: no pitting.

Very Good

65% of original metal finish. Dings & dents on wood, clean bore, in working condition.

Good

50% of original metal finish. Dings & dents on wood and metal. May have surface rust & pitting but in safe working condition.

Fair

Well worn, very little blueing. Has surface rust & pitting, dark bore. Complete, in safe working condition

I'd call this rifle good to fair on their scale. But maybe I don't know what 65% blue looks like. The metal that is showing has maybe 10% left on it.

The Special Select Persian I got from them was pretty close. The metal finish was closer to 95% or better. The stock has lots of little dings and dents and the high gloss finish is missing over about 50% of the surface. I'll refinish with a HG tung oil and it'll be the cream of the crop.

Sounds like this is the rifle you should have gotten.

yeah Richard, thats waht I was looking for.

You know, I really want one of these rifles. I'm going to print that page and when I return the one I have I'm going to ask if they have something matching that description, I will accept an exchange. They were trying to get me to exchange on the phone, but I do not want to have to send 3-4 rifles back and forth to figure out they are all POS...ya know. But I will search over there on Parallax to see what else I can find that is recent. I just want a decent rifle.

1. I agree with Ezra, send it back. Ive seen better condition weapons in the 30.00 pickle barrel at my gun dealer.

For a 91/30 the wood doesn't seem too bad, dark but not oo dinged up...but it really could have more blueing left.
