Nice! The wood on there is fantastic. That's one of the nicest garands I've seen in years.

1. Actually, I got it through CMP. It is a CMP rifle shipped as you see it. I got the sling and bayonet from a local dealer. The wood has not been refinished. When it came in it was sticky and grimmy. My wife wouldnt let me but (That Dirty Thing), on her wall unless I did something to it.
2. I took some Murphies Wood Soap and cleaned it off and this is what I got.
3. It is a 1954 model with 80 % matching parts. The barrel is the only part that was not original.

Well, here's the one from My post again.
I'd been told that it was a '52 but found out when looking at Springfields production numbers that it is actually a '57 (Last year).
My Dad's had this rifle since the mid' '60's. He bought it for the watts riots of all things! LOL!!! It's a damn good thing they never made it to Pomona!;)

Hey Treadhead, is that a red birch stock? Seems the best looking Garands have these stocks. All the Walnut ones seem well worn so to speak.

Schuetz', I "Think" it is (?)
It's new to the gun though. Last year Mike found it at the show on a "Tanker" and bought it off the guy. The original that came with the gun was walnut. We've got that stock back out at the folks place.
