ok, i've got some .223 ammo lying around, & aside from using it for its actual intended purpose with my AR15, i do crafts & am interested in making various things out of the bullets. how can i make them safe for use in arts & crafts?
thanks!

You'd be better off just loading the bullet into an empty case. Other wise you have to pull the bullet, dump the powder and find a way to turn the primer inactive. I've heard WD-40 works, but have never tried it. Never really had a reason to "deactivate" a bullet through any means other than firing it! :nanaboo:

I've made dummy cartridges... all you do is pull the bullet, dump the powder down the drain (or burn it), then put the empty shell into a rifle and fire the primer. Lastly, press the bullet back in. There you have it... a safe "dummy" cartridge.

No one's mentioned that the easiest way to pull the bullet without damaging it or the case is with a Kinetic Bullet Puller.

You can get one where you buy reloading supplies or online from Midway USA, etc..
Or, you could just fire a round and buy some bullets and use one to press back into the spent cartridge. This will probably be the easiest way since the neck of the cartridge will have expanded when you fired the round. Pushing a bullet into a cartridge stripped of it's bullet and powder using a bullet puller may be harder to do without a press and seating die.

Roger, I was assuming that since he was going to use the dummy round in some sort of a craft that he may not want the indented primer........he may want it to look like a live round. I dunno though, he seems to have posted and ran.
