I have seen tests where the 223 in 55gr has a problem penetrating car doors will the heavier round in 223 penetrate car doors or other light cover, does any one know if the 77gr round perform at long distance I am from the old school and the 308 is the round I perfer but I am thinking about getting an AR but I need to know before I dump 1000 on the gun.

Read up at http://www.ammo-oracle.com and do a search for "Mk262" on that "other" AR15 site on the internet.

Terminal ballistic performance of the 77gr Mk262 round is excellent compared to other .223 ammo out there. That said, .223 is no .308 when it comes to penetrating cover. The .223 vs. .308 debate has been covered many times and both have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Are you an LEO or a merc or something?

Seems odd you'd base your purchases off of whethor or not it's penetration can live up to your standards.

With that said, the 77 grain round will perform best in a 1-7 twist barrel. So make sure you opt for that twist rate.

Well lets just say I am somthing and comming from the old school of 308 Iwas given a video on penetration effects to various things and was suprised that the 223 couldent make it through the door I also like the way the AR15 can get multipal shots where the 308 requires a little more time for succesful striking

The 77 gr. is much better than the 55 gr. but, the angle of impact really affects its penetration performance. (To a much greater degree than .308.)
