Just looking to see if anyone on the board has purchased one. If you have, how about a range report and comparision to your M96. I think we all would be interested if you have the new 6.8 SPC.

I don't think they are even shipping them untill '06. I called Robinson about them and the guy I spoke with says they are just now mass producing the buttstock, and that they will start on the rest soon! Now, I'm not really that up on manufacturing techniques, but isn't the whole gun usually manufactured at the same time? Besides, the buttstock is basically just the folding skeleton stock they where using on the M96, and before that I think it was being made by ACE ltd.

I had one on order for about a year, was on the waiting list, but got tired of waiting, so I decided to build an AR-15 instead.

Dropped the XCR for an AR? Jeez, talk about trading down. You should look into an M96 instead. They are actually superior to the XCR in alot of ways.

It can't be a superior weapon if it's not here. Put it this way I bought a PSL and am building an AR15 with the money that was going to the XCR

I know what you mean. On another board the term "vaporware" is being used to describe the XCR or more pointedly, Alex's failed promises to make something happen, ie belt feed and 7.62.

For one thing, perhaps not the most important point, but a good one none the less, the M96 LOOKS like an intelligently designed gun while the XCR just looks like a mutated AR-15. Looks aside though, the M96 is much more modular and has potential to be used in multiple configurations, while the XCR is a gimiky, underdeveloped rifle based on parts pirated from an M96. There are advantages to the XCR over the M96, such as weight, more streamlined design, and the method of barrel attachment that is slightly more accurate. But the fact remains that the XCR seems like a rushed and underdeveloped idea that could have been a lot more. For example, The nut that holds the barrel sticks out the bottom in a rather crude fashion, when it would have taken minimal effort to machine a concave into the receiver to house it and keep it from being so obtrusive. Also, the XCR brags and boasts of being able to switch from .223 to 7.62, yet they didn't bother to develop a removable mag-well like the M96 so that you could switch to AK mags. :letssee:

Nicotine,
Points well made! I am so tunnel blind over the 6.8spc(not avail at this time) I just didnt look to other points. Let me make clear, I am truly impressed with my M96. Its a early series Carbine, and its fine. I updated to the Recon and have all three barrel length. I have not changed out the bolt however. Robarms claims seem a little flimsy on this point. Anyway I degress, thanks for these fine points. I still look to seeing one and making up my mind on a purchase.

Wouldn't a M96 XCR hybrid be neat, lighter weight with 6.8spc and more streamlined design in reciever, but still M96 modularity! :big:
