I just picked up this little treasure, a cop version on a M-4 (in semi-auto only). Since this site is somewhat anemic, maybe we can breathe a little life into it ? How do these things rate ? I haven't fired a .223 since I wore a green suit. Back then, my 20" barreled M-16A1 was pretty damn accurate. Of course, with the shorter barrel somethings got to give, but boy is this handy. Comments please. By the way, the cost $950 used, but exc. overall.

Sounds like a nice rifle! I have a 16 incher that I use for home defense. Have a laser set to 15 feet with an entry stock. If my pistol doesn't do the job, this baby should. $950 is not a bad price for a Colt LEO marked AR-15/M-4.

Now, you made me check to see exactly how the receiver is marked: "Colt's Law Enforcement Carbine Ser. LE 0070XX" other side: "Restricted Military/Government-Law Enforcement/Export Use Only"- nothing else, other thean the Colt address and logo. Does this mean early, or late ? PS- Your comments are sincerely appreciated !

Don't Know... Check the carrier, if it has the M-16 bolt carrier like my Colt LEO,than that it's the later model… I think the earlier model was shipped with the new Colt carrier…

SS0M003: 5 M-4's/Shorty's ! Holy Shit ! Lucky man. I wonder if they all have the little "M4" stamped on the front of the receiver above the delta ring ? I just have to get godzilla help me pry mine off to examine mine.

Mine has the "new Colt carrier" style ( open in the rear ).

You don't need pry off the handguard to see the M4 marking, I did it just to show the M4 double insulated heat shield handguard...

Here are some more marking on my Colt LEO M4 upper...

Well, I guess I don't. Thanks. I guess because of the configuration with the flattop, it's just easlier to piggyback production with the military M-4. Question though, I am somewhat familiar with the difference between the SS-109 and M-193 ammo, but is there any truth to the typical "gun show" wisdom that says that accuracy with the M-193 suffers because of the more rapid twist on this LEC and M-4's, or is it BS ? Or, simply a reflection of the shorter barrel ?

i got a 20 in h-bar and the 6920 both w 1/7 twist

while i havent done a head to head shootout i think the 20 is more accurate but the 6920 sure is easier to lug around

Guess I would tend to agree. The LEC is about the easiest thing to hump other than maybe a M-1 Carbine, and the ballistics are so much superior. It will interesting to go plinking in the next few days, all I got is a couple of Black Hills "Blue Boxes", but we'll see.

Mine says restricted law enforcemtn/military and all that but does not say anything about "export" on the ejection side of the weapon. Also, On the side below where it says Colt and the horse picture it says 'AR-15 A2 GOVERNMENT'. How is mine a different Law Enforcement model Ar-15 than the one in the pictures? Mine has bayonet lug, flash suppressor and collapsable stock. It Does Not have a removable handle on top. 16" barrell on mine also. Just wondering which variation I have. Thanks! Will post a pic if needed to help ID the model when I get back home.
