I shot my new/unissued polish P64 9X18mm mackarov today. I was testing it last night prior to shooting it and it kept jamming where an ammo would get stuck between the magazine and the barrel. A bit scary for a new gun owner, and not common on my very reliable glock 19. I figured out that 2 of the 3 magazines had this problem, even the better magazine also seemed to want to jam. . I plan on returning for an exchange the two faulty magazines. I did notice the heavy trigger and the recoil to the point that your hand hurts after a few rounds. For some reason it seemed more accurate than my glock. Being a new shooter it could be luck. I do like the look and feel of it, but I would most likely pull my glock for self defense. Anyone experience the magazine jams and is there a solution to it. I took it apart and cleaned it with break cleaner to remove the cosmoline. I also oiled it pretty well, maybe I need to oil it better.

The ramp the front of the bullet rides on to guide it into the chamber could be polished with a very fine cloth, that frequently helps. You mention that you were testing prior to shooting? Sometimes, pistols won't feed properly unless there is enough momentum behind the slide, like when you're actually shooting. Most people use shorthand to describe a jam when it happens FTF= failure to feed & FTE=failure to eject. When you were shooting, the only problems you were having were FTF's (not including the sore hand!). ;)

Thanks for the response. My failure to feed problem mainly happened with the faulty magazines. I also understand that a 36yr old pistol may need to be broken in and oiled properly to prevent issues.

9x18 Mak also has a lot of recoil in a Mak. Mostly, it is due to the fixed barrel. Regards, Richard :D
