Would like to share something I tried.
Got the idea off Saiga-12.com. It's a great idea,it's cheap, IT WORKS!!!!!!
First, pull apart your factory 308 mag,you only need the body.
Second take a HK G3 mag and cut the top to look like this:

Then work the follower of the G3 mag to fit the saiga body.
Looks something like this:

I did do a tad of "pulling" on the spring.
I put the 2 halfs together with duct tape. Ya,go ahead and laugh, but
it worked great.Plus you can take it back apart in 1 min and have
a factory 8 rd mag again.
Should bottom out at 37rds.,35rds fit just fine. Ran her a few times
with 30rds and all was good!!!
It will take all of 10 min. to butcher the G3.

Have fun but don't forget 922(r)

Hey MRIman/bamaboy!

I guess we managed to conjointly post on the nature of this mod (see the mag & russian AK forums).
Best I can tell, you are the one that ran into the idea (right?)...great idea. It sure puts to rest all the extreme (as in major weapons modifications) notions of what is required to get a Saiga .308 hi-cap to work.

My flavor of the mod was to do less cap, as it allowed use of the HK spring w/o streching it. I considered the lessened cap (around 25 ) adequate, and, the mag was less massive. But, it's whatever trips a guys trigger.
I also built back up a portion of the follower that is ground away in it's fitting.

As some, understandably, don't want to use 100MPH tape...I'd recommned for those that want things secured together better -use a section of bicycle inner tube cut into a band & slipped over the joint of the two mag bodies. Should work.

A more permanent approach would be to just epoxy where the mag bodies join. I sorta like the idea of a extention that goes on\off easily...I might do otherwise IF the factory mags ever become available again -and, less pricey.

Again, let me give you the credit you deserve on coming up with this -I sort of thought it was largely ignored on the Saiga site. But, as you can tell, not by me.
