Can anyone tell me if the South African .223/5.56 that came in the brown battle packs is made to NATO Spec?

I have 4 battle packs and there are no NATO markings. The headstamp is 13/89.

The SA 5.56 is not NATO spec. That being said, the only reason it is not is because it is 55 gr. M193 spec. All NATO spec 5.56 is 62 gr SS-109. The SA is very good quality ammo, it's just not NATO spec.

If you're lucky, you MIGHT find a couple packs at a gunshow in an addball ammo lot.

Most people who bought it have the stuff stockpiled. Hasn't been for sale in "retail" for quite some time.

I saw 2 packs at a gunshow a while back. Was 25$ each for 2 packs of the stuff. If I had known then what I know now, I would have snatched it up in a heartbeat.. Live and learn I guess.
