question about my mas 36/51

what is the hook thing on the right side of the barrel at the muzzle end for? i've also seen them on the mle36. just curious!

It's a stacking swivel, I hope thats the right term. Anyway its used to stack one rifle with another, butts on the ground and the barrrels up to and touching, in a teepee or triangular type affair when the soldiers are in camp. You see if all the time in the old movies. Oh, and welcome aboard.
