Hi folks winter is coming and my rear vizibility is ZERO. my reat window defroster on a 92 mitsu Eclipse doesnt work the wires that are attached to the defroster grid or whatever else is called doesnt work, i looked at the connections looks like it was welded on or something, regular soldering gun doesnt work on it and im afraid to crack the glass due to the heat.
Can any of you give me some adive on how to attach it?
P.S. its my first manual transmisson car Im never going to the slushbox again!
Hook up a multi-meter to the ends first to make sure there's current (works) before you re-attach them.
White trash way to re-attach them would be to cut two small pieces of copper first, say 1/4 square and solder the ends to the piece. Then take some rubber cement and after putting the piece of wired copper on the lead on the window, cement the outer edge of the copper.
This way will ensure you have good contact.
Also, be sure to completely cover the copper/wire on each so any moisture won't short out the circuit.

Hmm... there are two wires on the oppsite side of the defroster.
Thanks for the advice about the multi meter, checked it and it works fine.
My grandpa suggested to look for a glue or compund that conducts electricity. Aperentley there are some silver based compounds that do that.

NAPA has a repair kit. It contains a glue with powdered copper mixed in.

Ok then, go to your bathroom, knock out some drywall so you'll have access to the copper pipes. Now take a sawzall...

What are you going to do....have him install hot water pipes on the back window? :dunno:

Ok what the f#%k I took out the dry wall and cut out some of the white pipes but the glass gets foggy and wet then the duct tape peels off. I dont think that those white pipes conduct electricity too well, and now my crapper doesnt work. There is a phoneline junction box one block down it should have some good wires, just need to bust off the lock.
You need to run a line from the heater core to the white pipe, and duct tape a garden hose spayer to the end.
You could also line up cans of sterno, or duct tape trioxane bars to the window, and sipmly light them with a common cigarette lighter before you pull out!
I don't know why you don't just take some Saran Wrap and stretch it across the rear window every night, and peel it and defrost off the next morning....that is if you want to defrost the rear window.

who cares what is behind you? Focus on moving forward.
who cares what is behind you? .
Probably wouldn't matter if your father was Airborne and worked for the Teamster bosses.....:dunno:

...and drive fast. If you see anyone in your rear view, that means you're losing, so go even faster.
What's annoying to me is when there's snow/frost and dumbwads only scrape off just enough to peek out their front windshield...then drive.

Yep, fast as you can.
When I lived in SD, and then in Germany that bothered me. They would drive off not being able to see anything at all. If you drive into the sun you cant see for sure.
